FAMILY DACE of Manhattan, Kansas
Three brothers (Herman, Michael, & Dennis--from whom we are descended) came to the new world in the early 19th century. They settled in Illinois. They represent the first generation of Dace family immigrants. I have no documents relating to them at this time.
The second generation of Daces included Edwin Wallace Dace I, who was a private in the Civil War fighting for the North. There were other Daces (from the same original 3 brothers) who faught for the South. He was a cooper before the war, and a farmer afterwards. He had 11 children. The first was a boy, then 9 girls, then the last boy, Henry Maurice Dace I. |
Henry, representing the third generation, liked golf and business. He was a medic in the Navy during World War I, and married Elizabeth Maddox. She was performing in a music hall when he saw her for the first time and fell in love. They only had one child. |

As for the fourth generation, Edwin Wallace Dace II grew up during the depression. He worked in the radar room on a ship in the Navy during WWII. After the war he got a PhD, had three children, and finished his career as a professor at Kansas State University. He taught theatre, opera, and film. |

Being the fifth generation, I am Henry Maurice Dace II, and I have one brother, Edward Marshall Dace. My sister Judy died when she was 20. My two sons live in Britain, where I lived for 20 years. They don't count as the 6th generation because they do not live in America! I have now moved back to Manhattan
