John H. Seger residence on the Indian school grounds, Seger Colony, Oklahoma Territory. This house was completed in 1891 or 1892 and was the first frame house in what became Washita and Custer Counties. It was located a little north of the classroom buildings, being separated from them by a deer park. Mr. Seger's younger daughter, Lena, was born in a second floor room of the house in December 1894. Lena's oldest daughter, Mary, was born in the same room almost twenty-six years later. Upon Mr. Seger's retirement in August 1920, the Segers moved to a farm a mile west of Colony. After standing vacant for a number of years, the residence on the school grounds was sold and moved. [Information provided in part by Mary Stevenson.
