Getting out of a VACATIONS CLUB that is no so ... GREAT
Mexican Vacation Club Scam
Here is a timeline of my successful cancellation request (all dates 2007)
Lessons Learned:
- Never, NEVER go to Mexican Timeshare presentations for any reason - PERIOD. Not even for$250.00 in free Tequila (I love good Tequila). I've actually extended this to ALL Timeshare presentations - Life is too short for these kind of games.
- NEVER join any kind of VACATION CLUB, unless you want to kiss your money
goodbye. There are just more bad ones than good ones out there. They are almost always 'Subject to Availability" with no guarantees - why would anyone put out THOUSANDS of Dollars with NO GUARANTEES??? - I ask myself that question EVERY DAY!!!
- If you do want to buy a TIMESHARE, and are ok with the annual maintenance fees, then get one for $1 off eBay, because that’s all they
are worth IMO. Save yourself the high pressure sales tactics, and alleged
misrepresentations of these captive situations. My advice, also check out the internet before buying any resale timeshare to make sure the current owners are happy with the resort conditions and service. Remember, even if you own a timeshare, you do NOT have to attend their sales presentation either, they will just waste your time trying to upgrade you. REFUSE - See the Never, NEVER section.
For the record, we purchased 1 week even years at the Sheraton Buganvilias sight unseen on the resale market 10 years ago for $1,000.00 total including transfer fees. So as you can see, there is no equity value to a
timeshare, (the resale market is flooded with units that have been turned back). We are very happy with this resort in Puerto Vallarta. However, everytime we go down, during check-in the resort tries to get us to an 'owners meeting' -- this is just another sales presentation - waste of time. We simply refuse to commit to a time, and save ourselves some more grief. Also, as far as trading for other resorts/locations, the trade opportunities through RCI are a joke -- again just my opinion from prior experience.
- If you have been scammed, you can help others by spreading the word about your TIMESHARE sales or VACATIONS CLUB experience anywhere you can:
web sites, blogs, travel reviews, etc. The more the word gets out the less people will get taken and lose their hard earned money.
- Buy your own hand crafted 100% Blue Agave Tequila and
enjoy Mexico.
