The best way to clean your victorian lampshades is with a very soft bristled brush (I use an old horse hair brush) and with a gentle sweeping motion simply brush downward, brushing the dust off. A vacuum cleaner can also be used, being very careful not to pull hard on the fabric. If you need to remove a spot, a damp cloth and Scotch Guard will usually work, but you DON'T want to use it on silk! Do a very small patch test first on any shade before using this method. If you don't have a horse hair brush, any soft bristled paint brush will work, just make sure it is VERY SOFT bristled! A course brush could cause a snag in delicate fabric.
