I hope you enjoy my site! My goal is to help promote and facilitate a positive and educational adult–child interaction with the computer and software tools.
I find joy in creating content such as visual tutorials, audio podcasts, reviews and references that help people solve a problem or make something in their lives a little bit easier and a whole lot more fun. Of course, many others out there are doing the same thing, so much of this will be an embellishment to already existing resources. My point of view is from that of a parent and technology educator, so think of my content as a “something else you should consider” reference. I try to promote multi-platform, open-source development wherever I can, so it doesn’t matter if you use a Mac or a PC, but since I’m using a Mac, **YMMV.
Like any Mother during a child’s nap time who might read a book or take to needlework, I cuddle up with my laptop. My method of designing websites is kind of like quilting. I take bits and pieces from different sources and stitch them all together. I’m making this stuff up as I go along, but I’m having a lot of fun doing it. This is how I choose to spend my “me” time which keeps me sane and happy.
As the Mother of young boys, it should be no surprise that this site will always be a work in progress. I have several projects lined up in addition to my part time consultant work, so check back for updates or subscribe to my blog or twitter to keep in touch.
My personal criteria for publishing content:
Software should be part of the standard **OS (operating system) or something you can download or update for free. I’m on a tight budget and it’s my goal to set an example of how easy it is to create, utilize and maintain an online presence for little or next to nothing. I pride myself in being a “frugalista” of Web 2.0 tools.
Instructional methods should be something you can easily access and understand without a lot of technology know-how.
The total amount of steps should be minimal.
Most educational reviews and tutorials will be targeted for parents, caregivers and educators of elementary school-aged children and below.
Additional software or hardware reviewed should be either free or extremely inexpensive or will be something which can be purchased with an educational discount.
I am building this website using iWeb because it’s quick and easy and comes with a Mac that works out of the box. I’m also using free widgets found on the web because I am not a programmer. That being said, this site is best viewed using Mozilla Firefox or Safari. If you’re experiencing a problem viewing my site or any of the elements, please feel free to let me know about it along with any suggestions to enhance the usability of this site. I’m always looking for ways to make it better and I love learning new techniques.
I’m using Google Ads at the bottom of each page to help earn extra money for my family. On most pages I’ve placed keywords to help steer the ads to something appropriate for my site but I can not guarantee that the ads will always be relevant.
**I’m on a Mac so much of my content will be Macintosh-oriented. As always, YMMV (Your mileage may vary.)http://www.themacmommy.blogspot.comhttp://www.twitter.com/themacmommymailto:themacmommy@gmail.com?subject=website%20suggestionshapeimage_2_link_0shapeimage_2_link_1shapeimage_2_link_2
