Damed Water - Joshua Tree National Park

PHOTO

Besides the beauty of nature, there are many historic sites to visit in Joshua Tree National Park. One of them is Barker Dam that was built by cattleman Barker in 1900 to provide water for his cattle. The dam was later raised by rancher William F. Keys in 1949. The water level behind the dam was very low when I visited it due to a drought that the desert southwest of the US experienced for a number of years. You can see water marks on the rocks that highlight the high water level from previous years.
