Fishing Tucson Urban Lakes

Tucson has some fun places to fish by yourself, or with your children or buddies. I enjoy them as they are easily accessable, convientient for me and my daughter to hit anytime in the day, any day and we catch fish out of them with regularity. You can fish from sunrise to 10:30 p.m. Sunday through Saturday.

The lakes are stocked every two weeks with catfish in the spring/summertime, with rainbow trout in the fall/winter. Check out the stocking schedule for 2006/07

An urban fishing license ($18.50 for 2007 plus $6.00 for a 2 pole stamp) required. No live baitfish is allowed. The lakes contain: channel catfish, rainbow trout (in season), bluegill, redear sunfish, hybrid sunfish, crappie, largemouth bass, carp, and white amur. Children under 14 can fish off an adult license and are allowed half the adult daily catch. The daily bag limit for an adult is 4 catfish, 4 trout, 2 bass (13" inch minimum), 10 sunfish, 1 white amur (30" inch minimum). There's no limit on crappie or carp.

Canoes up to 17 feet and boats 14 feet and under are permitted. And must have proper floatation devices on board. Gasoline motors are prohibited on the lakes.

The park rules are as follows:

  • Swimming or wading prohibited.
  • No fishing allowed in Archer Lake.
  • No glass containers.
  • No littering.
  • Feeding of waterfowl prohibited.

Other rules are posted. For more information call (520) 791-5890 or (520) 791-3204, ext. 13.
