Understanding Fish Hooks

Hook Replacement

Wow is this topic a can of worms. hehehe. Well I got in the habit of replacing all my hooks that come on my new lures with new Gamakatsu or Eagle Claw laser sharpened trebles. I keep 4 or 5 boxes of assorted sizes handy, and as soon as I get that new lure(s) home, before it goes into the tackle box, I replace the original hooks on it with new hooks.

For whatever my fishing needs, the most important thing I do when it comes to my choosing a hook, is to use these new red "laser sharpened" hooks. These hooks feel like they are twice as sharp as the standard hooks that you get on that new lure you bought. They are awesome and man do they hook a fish. Heck, the only time I deviate from this, is when I'm trout fishing. I ALWAYS buy & use #8 Eagle Claw Snelled Hooks (small gold hooks) or the #10 Eagle Claw Snelled Treble Hooks. Laser sharpened hook are available too.

But dont throw out those old hooks. I suggest you pass your leftovers on to kids, novices your teaching to fish or that old fishing buddy who feels sharing & plundering your tacklebox contents is his Constitutional right.
