YAHSHUA'S PRE-EXISTENCE
What do you believe about YAHshua? Did He or did He not pre-exist? There are assemblies who believe that He did and others which believe that He did not. One assembly has 70 or more writings on hand which supposedly prove that YAHshua did not pre-exist.
By Jerry Healan
We recently published a booklet entitled "The Word." This booklet was written to glorify our Savior YAHshua and the Heavenly Father YAHWEH. However, one specific assembly has taken issue with the publication and has sent several items to brethren on our mailing list seeking to sway them away from the truth concerning YAHshua. Copies of three such articles are attached. It is the purpose of this publication to refute these items. To show the error of their reasoning and to direct the brethren to the truth concerning YAHshua. Each item is listed as Exhibit #1, #2 and #3.
EXHIBIT #1
Exhibit #1 is seeking to deal with John 1:1-18. This author is utilizing a very insidious trick by focusing on verse 18 and then backing everything in with his faulty reasoning. By the time that he works back to verse one, the focus and attention is only on the Father and hardly on the Son at all.
But just what is John seeking to focus on in verses 1-18? He opens with the very important topic of the Word, doesn’t he? "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim." (Jn. 1:1)
The interesting thing here is that the author of Exhibit #1 did not study what was written in Jn. 1:1 in detail. He utilizes no other Scriptures to hone in on this very important topic and make comparisons. The article is very short and limited in its approach.
The first thing to notice about Jn. 1:1 is that John is not only focusing on the Word, but he utilizes the words, "In the beginning…" This takes us back to the creation account in the book of Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning Elohim created the heavens and the earth."
Now take a look at the word Elohim. The English, of course, employs the word "God" in both accounts of Gen. 1:1 and Jn. 1:1, but the Hebrew word Elohim is a plural rendering of the word El or Eloah. Notice the what Elohim says, " And Elohim said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image and in Our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.’ So Elohim created man in His own image, in the image of Elohim created He Him; male and female created He them," Gen. 1:26-27.
Notice it brethren! Elohim is a plural word! Elohim said "Let Us...Our," etc. Why would He say "Let Us" if He were only one alone? Why would He inspire the plural word "Elohim" to be employed if He were only one alone?
Why is it that there are many, many places where YAHWEH has inspired the scribes to employ plural words to describe Himself?
Let’s take some of these other Scriptures for example. "And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, ‘Go to, let us make brick and burn them thoroughly.’ And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. And they said, ‘Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.’ And YAHWEH came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And YAHWEH said, ‘Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let Us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech‘," Gen. 11:1-7.
The prophet Isaiah writes, "Also I heard the voice of YAHWEH saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?’ Then said I, ‘Here am I; send me’," Isa. 6:9.
In Prov. 9: 10 it is written, "The fear of YAHWEH is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding." The interesting thing about this verse is that the word holy is PLURAL in the original Hebrew, not singular as the English portrays. The Interlinear Bible renders this verse as: "The beginning of wisdom is the fear of [YAHWEH] and the knowledge of the Holy Ones is understanding."
In Psa. Chapter 2 we read, "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together against YAHWEH, and against His Anointed (His Messiah), saying, ‘Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away Their cords from us’."
The question is, How long has this rebellion been going on against YAHWEH and His Anointed, His Messiah? The answer is, Since before the flood! Cain and his posterity devised ways to overthrow YAHWEH'S and His Messiah's bands and cords from them. After the flood, Nimrod began the rebellion against YAHWEH and His Messiah. Of course, Israel followed suit after their deliverance from the land of Egypt and finally, the so-called New Testament Assembly or Church has also been in the process of doing the same thing. This statement in Psa. 2 perfectly fits in with the whole history of man. Man has ever been seeking to nullify YAHWEH'S and His Messiah's commands. As the Psalmist says in another place, "It is time for Thee YAHWEH to work: for they have made void Thy law," Psa. 119:126.
Since YAHWEH is the One Who has inspired the plural words, and the One Who inspired Psa. 2, there is more than meets the eyes here.
THE MAN
Another thing to point out concerning Genesis 1:26-27 is the use of singular and plural words. As already pointed out, Elohim (plural) said, "Let Us...our...Our," etc. (v. 26). Also in verse 26, when speaking about man (Adam), he utilizes the plural word them.
But in verse 27 Elohim utilizes His, He, Him, etc. concerning Himself. He jumps from plural to singular, however He still utilizes the plural word Elohim. Speaking of man in verse 27, Elohim utilizes both singular and plural. When we read the English rendition, we do not get the full impact, but the Hebrew literally reads, "So Elohim (plural) created man (haAdam or the man, singular!) in His (singular) own image, in the image of Elohim (plural) created He (singular) him (singular); male and female created He (singular) them (plural)."
So the fact of the matter is that Elohim utilizes both singular and plural words for Himself and also for man. This same style of singular and plural is utilized in Gen. 5:1-2 which states, "This is the book of the generations of Adam (singular). In the day that Elohim (plural) created man (Adam, singular), in the likeness of Elohim (plural) made He (singular) him (singular). Male and female created He (singular) them (plural); and blessed them (plural), and called their (plural) name Adam (singular), in the day when they (plural) were created."
Brethren, there is more to this than meets the eye in the usage of both singular and plural for Elohim and man. In Gen. 2 we have a little more detailed sketch of the creation of Adam. We find that the man was created alone first, then YAHWEH created the woman out of the man’s rib and brought her to him with the charge that they become "one flesh". Thus, we have one becoming two and then commanded to become one again. This is a mystery which many people cannot understand.
WITH ELOHIM
Let’s go back to John 1:1 and do a little more analyzing. Again, John says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was WITH Elohim and the Word was Elohim. The Greek word employed for the word WITH is PROS. Pros is #4314 in the Greek Lexicon of Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance and is defined as; a strengthened form of 4253; a prep. of direction; forward to, i.e. toward (with the genit. the side of, i.e. pertaining to; with the dat. by the side of, i.e. near to; usually with the accus. the place, time, occasion, or respect, which is the destination of the relation, i.e. whither or for which it is predicated).
YAHshua prayed to the Father, "And now, O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was," Jn. 17:5.
What glory did YAHshua have before the world was? Wasn’t it the glory to be able to sit beside the Father at His right hand? The New Testament Scriptures are replete with this answer, "...Who is even at the right hand of YAHWEH…," Ro. 8:34. "Which He wrought in the Messiah, when He raised Him from the dead, and set Him at His Own right hand in the heavenly places," Eph. 1:20. "If ye then be risen with the Messiah, seek those things which are above, where the Messiah sitteth on the right hand of Elohim," Col. 3:1. "Who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high," Heb. 1:3. (NOTE: Here is the One Who is the Word, through Whom all things were made [Jn. 1:3], upholding all things by the word of His power. This is the glory and power of our Messiah and, of course, His Father.) "Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an High Priest, Who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens," Heb. 8:1. "But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of Elohim," Heb. 10:13. "Looking unto YAHshua the Author and Finisher of our faith, Who for the joy that was set before Him endured the tree, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of Elohim," Heb. 12:2. "The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward Elohim), by the resurrection of YAHshua the Messiah: Who is gone into Heaven, and is on the right hand of Elohim; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto Him," 1 Pet. 3:21-22.
Look at the glory that YAHshua was restored to. He not only was restored to His original place that He had beside the Father (at His right hand), but the power to uphold all things by His Word was restored to Him as well as the power over angels and authorities and powers!
YAHshua's own words repeatedly were that He came down from heaven. John records, "This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.’ These things said He in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum. Many therefore of His disciples, when they had heard this, said, ‘This is an hard saying; who can hear it?’ (NOTE: This is exactly what Exhibits #1, #2 and #3 are saying. They are no different than these disciples of YAHshua's day!) When YAHshua knew in Himself that His disciples murmured at it, He said unto them, ‘Doth this offend you? What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where He was before? It is the Spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. But there are some of you that believe not.’ For YAHshua knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray Him. And He said, ‘Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto Me, except it were given unto him of My Father.’ From that time many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him," Jn. 6:58-66.
Brethren, it is so very important that we hear and believe the words of YAHshua, even though we may not understand what He is saying. We certainly should not deny His words. If we deny His words, then we are in danger of quenching His Spirit. If we deny His words, then we are contradicting Him. This we must not do!
One sister has pointed out that she believes that many of the numbers utilized in Scripture are important to take note of. Notice that John 6:66 has to do with the disciples who refused to believe YAHshua and would no longer walk with Him. The number is 666.
WHO IS THE WORD?
The author of Exhibit #1 writes, "In John 1:1, John the writer is very plain in telling us who the ‘word’ was. He says the word was God. Now we must find out who God is and we will then know who the ‘word’ is.
What fallacious reasoning! As stated, this author goes to verse 18 and then traces back in order to make his point. But it is obvious just Whom John is speaking of when he writes about the Word for in verse 14 he records, "And the Word was made (actually this should be translated as BECAME) flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth."
John even addresses this concept further in 1 Jn. 1:1-2, "That which was from the beginning (once again, John is taking us back to the beginning of the creation account in Gen. 1:1.) which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (for the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with (Gk. = pros = by the side of [at the right hand]) the Father, and was manifested unto us;)."
Notice it again! Here is the Word. It was manifested to the apostles. They saw it and handled it. This Word was ETERNAL LIFE! This Word was with, beside the Father! When? In the beginning!
Notice the statement of the author in paragraph 2, "The ‘word’ in John 1:14 is not Jesus. (I have to agree that it was not Jesus, but rather it was YAHshua.) The ‘word’, God the Father produced Jesus."
This man is TWISTING the Scriptures to make them say something that they absolutely are not saying. Of course, the Father conceived YAHshua by the power of the Holy Spirit. But YAHshua is the subject of John 1:1-18 as the Word. John says that the Word BECAME flesh and dwelt among us. This author has not even delved into the Greek to find out how the true expressions really are made.
In paragraph #4 the author writes, "One other point on John 1:1 is found in John 10:31. ‘But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.’ This is John’s reason for writing this whole book of John. His reason was to prove that Jesus was the Son of God and not that Jesus was God. One is completely out of context when saying that John 1:1 is saying Jesus was God."
True, YAHshua was called the Son of Elohim. But YAHshua was Elohim as is revealed in Heb. 1:8-11, "But unto the Son He saith, ‘Thy throne, O Elohim is forever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of Thy kingdom. Thou have loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore Elohim, even Thy Elohim, hath anointed Thee with the oil of gladness above Thy fellows.’ And, ‘Thou, Sovereign, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of Thine hands: they shall perish; but Thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; and as a vesture shalt Thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but Thou art the same, and Thy years shall not fail’."
When YAHshua confronted the Apostle Thomas because of his disbelief it is recorded, "Then saith He to Thomas, ‘Reach hither thy finger, and behold My hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into My side: and be not faithless, but believing.’ And Thomas answered and said unto Him, ‘My Sovereign and My Elohim," Jn. 20:27-28.
YAHshua is certainly referred to here in these passages as Elohim! What are the purposes for the Scriptures? Aren’t they revealed to be written in mysteries? Isn’t the New Testament revealing many of the mysteries that had not previously been made available? Read 1 Cor. 2 and you will see that such is the case.
We are commanded to "prove all things, hold fast that which is good," 1 Thes. 5:21. We are also encouraged to follow the example of the Bereans who searched the Scriptures daily whether those things are so (Acts 17:11). Our search of the Scriptures concerning Exhibit #1 has found that it is a TWISTED, CORRUPTED, CONVOLUTED piece of work that has utilized FALLACIOUS reasoning to come to its conclusions. It is in denial of the Messiah and Who He really was.
The author has utilized a deceitful trick by beginning at verse 18 and working backwards in order to disassociate YAHshua with that which actually is speaking of Him. This same trick is revealed by Albert Pike in his Masonic book entitled Morals and Dogma to be employed by Satan in order to nullify YAHWEH and His word. He proclaims that Satan is not a power for evil, but rather nullifies YAHWEH'S word by working contrary to Him.
This ploy is revealed in the way that Satan deceives the world to accept the first day of the week (Sunday) as the day of worship rather than the Sabbath. The mystics under Satan’s influence actually make the 7th day to be day one and then count backwards in retrograde in order to appoint the first day of the week.
Jude warns, "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, impious men, turning (perverting) the grace of our Elohim into lasciviousness, and denying (contradicting) the only Sovereign Elohim and our Sovereign YAHshua the Messiah," verse 4.
What do they do? They pervert or corrupt and contradict. That is exactly what this author has done.
EXHIBIT #2
Exhibit #2 is another work that is written to deny and contradict what the Scriptures truly say. There are three things that this Exhibit does not deny: 1. The Word was in the beginning. 2. It was with YHWH. And 3. It was YHWH.
However, paragraph 2 seeks to begin to simplify or "dumb down" the true meaning and impact of "Word" or "Logos."
What is the real impact, the real intent that the Apostle John is trying to convey in Jn. 1:1-18? Isn’t it the importance of the Word of YAHWEH? Doesn’t it say that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us? Doesn’t it say that the Word was Elohim? Doesn’t it say that the Word created all things?
In paragraph 5 of this Exhibit, the statement is made, "(Colossians 1:16 does not say that Yahshua created all things. It says that YHWH created all things because of Him and for Him)." How true is this statement?
Let’s take a look at Jn. 1:10 which says, "He was in the world (Who was in the world? Wasn’t it YAHshua?) and the world was made by Him (Created by Whom? He Who was in the world!), and the world knew Him not (And it is obvious that the author of this Exhibit falls into this same category)." Isn’t this speaking about the One (the Word) Who became flesh? Notice the next verse, "He came to His own and His own received Him not." This is speaking of YAHshua!
Colossians 1:12-19
Now let’s take a look at the book of Colossians to see what truly is being said. "Giving thanks to the Father, Which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light," v.12.
What a wonderful choice of words. John 1:1-18 also speaks of this light. He writes, "In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. There was a man sent from Elohim, whose name was John. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through Him might believe. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. That was the true Light, Which lighteth every man that cometh into the world," Jn. 1:4-9.
These verses admit that the Word is the true Light and furthermore it is the light which enlightens every man. Verse 9 actually should read, "That the true Light Which enlightens every man was coming into the world."
YAHshua proclaimed, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life," Jn. 8:12. Again He proclaimed, "As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world," Jn. 9:5. Today, those who belong to YAHshua are supposed to be the light of the world. We are to shine the true Light which is YAHshua, YAHWEH'S Word. We must not do the works which diminish that light.
Back in Col. 1, beginning with v. 13, "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son." Who has done this? The Father. How? Through the Son. Who has created the world? The Father. How? Through the Son.
"In Whom we have redemption through His (the Son’s) blood, even the forgiveness of sins: Who (the Son) is the image of the invisible Elohim, the firstborn (still speaking of the Son) of every creature: for by Him (still speaking of the Son) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him (the Son), and for Him (the Son): and He (the Son) is before all things, and by Him (the Son) all things consist. And He (the Son) is the Head of the body, the assembly: Who (the Son) is the beginning (and was in the beginning), the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the pre-eminence. (YAHshua is pre-eminent in all things whether they be thrones, dominions, principalities, powers, the creation itself. It has pleased the Father to do all of this through YAHshua, His Son.)
THE WORD OF YAHWEH
YAHWEH sends forth His Word and things are created, "By the Word of YAHWEH were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth...For He spake, and it was done (became); He commanded, and it stood fast," Psa. 33:6, 9.
As reported in our booklet entitled The Word, the Hebrew rendering of the "Word of the LORD [YAHWEH]" is "Dabar YAHWEH." This Dabar YAHWEH came to all the prophets who spoke and wrote under inspiration. Dabar YAHWEH is shown to be a name. The One Who bears this name is revealed in Rev. 19:11-16, "And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse; and He that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns; and He had a name written, that no man knew, but He Himself. And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of G-d (Heb. = Dabar YAHWEH). And the armies which were in heaven followed Him upon white horses, clothed in fin linen, white and clean. And out of His mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it He should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty YAHWEH. And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, King of Kings, and Sovereign of Sovereigns."
The book of Hebrews reports, "Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of G-d (Dabar YAHWEH), so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear," 11:3.
As we reported in our booklet, Here is the true faith of the saints, the disciples of YAHshua the Messiah.
GNOSTICISM
Exhibit #2 states, "Here John answers the Gnostic idea the YHWH is too aloof and remote to have done the creating himself, and so did the creating through an agent." (Par. 5)
Here is another barb shot forth to cause people to cringe in fear. Have I utilized Gnostic reasonings to present what I have presented here or rather, have I not utilized the Scriptures? I know nothing of Gnosticism, but I do know that YAHWEH does not change. We know that He is creating a new creation through His Son do we not? Aren’t we able to become new creatures in the Messiah, "Therefore if any man be in the Messiah, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of YAHWEH, Who hath reconciled us to Himself by YAHshua the Messiah, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; to wit, that Elohim was in the Messiah, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them, and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation," 2 Cor. 5:17-19.
The Father has always worked through the One Who became YAHshua the Messiah. Originally He was Elohim, YAHWEH, Dabar YAHWEH, and today He is the Salvation of YAHWEH and the agent through Whom YAHWEH the Father is creating a new creation. He does not change, He is the same yesterday, today and forever! HALLELUYAH!!!!!!
WAS MADE OR BECAME
On page 2, paragraph 1 the statement is made, "Finally, the 14th verse of John 1 tells us this ‘logos’ or spoken word was made flesh, a human being, and dwelt among us. It does not say that YHWH became flesh. It says that YHWH created ‘flesh,’ a human being, who would be His messenger or spokesman."
This author is contradicting his own words for he admits on page one that the ‘logos’ was YHWH (see #3 on page 1).
A quick look into Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance reveals that "was made" comes from the Greek word ginomai which is #1096 in the Greek Lexicon. Its definition is given as a prol. and mid. form of a prim. verb; to cause to be ("gen"-erate), i.e. (reflex.) to become (come into being), used with great latitude (lit., fig., intens., etc.).
The ASV, NAS, RSV, NRS, NKJ and Interlinear Bible all render "was made" as "became." Here is how each version renders Jn. 1:14:
ASV John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.
NAS John 1:14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
RSV John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.
NRS John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen His glory, the glory as of a Father's only Son, full of grace and truth.
NKJ John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
The Interlinear Bible John 1:14 And the Word flesh became, and tabernacled among us, and we beheld the glory of Him, glory as of an only-begotten from (the) Father, full of grace and of truth. (Converted directly from the Greek into the English.)
Had the author done a little deeper research, would he have been so quick to write, "It does not say that YHWH became flesh. It says that YHWH created ‘flesh,’ a human being, who would be His messenger or spokesman?" Even the producers of the King James Version are admitting their error in their version by producing a New King James Bible wherein "was made" is changed to "became." It appears that the author was a little to quick to utilize the original KJV to prove his point without applying more in-depth research. But such is the case when it comes to seeking to prove one’s own false reasonings.
VOY’S NOTE:
A note has been added by another brother. It states, "Logos, a Greek word meaning speech, organization, rational order, rational relationship, or rational expression, common in Greek philosophical writings’ (Ency. Judaica, article: Logos).
In the ‘sixth letter,’ sometimes attributed to the Greek philosopher, Plato, ‘the son of the true god is identified as the divine governor and origin of all things present and future’ (Ibid).
Does this sound familiar? It certainly does. This is the Christian view of the Nazarene who died on the tree; Being Son of the Supreme G-d, he (not his Father) is honored as the Creator."
And such thinking is the case with many in the assemblies. Here is what YAHshua said, "Now is the Son of man glorified, and YAHWEH is glorified in Him. If YAHWEH be glorified in Him, YAHWEH shall also glorify Him in Himself, and shall straightway glorify Him," Jn. 13:31-32. "I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when it, the Spirit of truth, is come, it will guide you into all truth: for it shall not speak of itself; but whatsoever it shall hear, that shall it speak: and it will shew you things to come. It shall glorify Me: for it shall receive of Mine, and shall shew it unto you. All things that the Father hath are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and shall shew it unto you," Jn. 16:12-15.
Do not these brethren understand? To glorify the Son is to glorify the Father. Yes, the Father is Creator, but the Son is also Creator. It was through the Son that the Father created all things. What belongs to the Father also belongs to the Son.
If you have seen the Son you have seen the Father. It is our desire to glorify the Father by also glorifying His Son. Everything that we seek of the Father, we seek through His Son. Is that too difficult to understand? We cannot glorify the Father unless we also glorify the Son. We will not diminish the glory of the Son!
The note continues, "Just as the early Greek and Gentile Christians retained their pagan doctrines of the immortality of the soul, of the Trinity, of the pagan holiday such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween, and May Day; they also retained their belief that it was the ‘son of the Supreme G-d’ who did the actual work in creating the universe. Only one step further brought them to the analogy of identifying Yahshua as this Son Who created the heavens and earth."
A thorough search of the Scriptures reveals that there is no mention of the immortality of the soul, nor of the Trinity. There are no commands to observe the pagan holidays such as Christmas, Easter, Halloween, May Day, etc. However, a thorough search of the Scriptures has turned up ample places where it says that all things were made by the Word, the Son, etc. Thus, this brother is making a serious mistake of lumping Scriptural things with unscriptural things in order to seek to nullify the Scriptural.
We find that, upon careful examination, Exhibit #2 falls into the same category of Exhibit #1.
EXHIBIT #3
The author of Exhibit #3 begins by stating that the New Testament is not self sufficient, but is dependant on the Old Testament for its life, its very existence. However, the author next states that it would be too strong a statement for the New Testament to agree with the Old Testament on everything. He then enumerates three things that he understands are not named in the Old Testament: (1) Faith that the promised Messiah was indeed YAHshua of Nazareth. (2) Baptism (3) Twelve Apostles. He states that nothing in the New Testament can be true if it disagrees with Old Testament Scriptures (as originally given). He focuses on 1 Jn. 5:7 as an example. He states that The Old Testament Scriptures tell us there is only one true El, One true Eloah, One true Elohim and only one YAHWEH. YAHWEH was alone. This means there was only one true deity.
He then says let us assume that YAHshua did indeed pre-exist in some form. If so, what options do we have? In what form did he pre-exist? He deducts that YAHshua was no El, no Eloah, no Elohim, not YAHWEH, not an angel and finally that YAHshua was only in YAHWEH'S plan.
But is it possible that this brother has misunderstood the Scriptures that he continually refers to? In the first place, in order to establish his reasoning, he utilizes 1 Jn. 5:7 as an example for something that is in the New Testament which does not agree with the Old Testament. The problem is that it has been well documented that the largest part of 1 Jn. 5:7 (in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.) was added to the New Testament sometime after the 16th century. However, the words that I am about to use were not.
YAHshua said, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am," Jn. 8:58. The Interlinear Bible renders Jn. 8:58 as, "Truly, truly, I say unto you, ‘Before Abraham came into being, I am." The Interlinear Bible has rendered this verse more correctly than the King James Version.
The Jews of His day understood what YAHshua had just implied because, "They took up stones to cast at Him: but YAHshua went out of the temple, going through the midst of them and so passed by," v. 59.
Why did they take up stones? For the same reason found in Jn. 10:30-33 where YAHshua said, "I and My Father are One.’ Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. YAHshua answered them, ‘Many good works have I shewed you from My Father; for which of those works do ye stone Me?’ The Jews answered Him, saying, ‘For a good work we stone Thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that Thou, being a man, makest Thyself Elohim."
We have already researched ample Scriptures to prove that Elohim is a plural word, that YAHshua, the Word pre-existed as Elohim and it was through Him that all things were made. YAHshua's statement that He and the Father are One should be an amplification and revelation of what is presented in the Old Testament. YAHshua’ statement certainly does not disagree with the Old Testament upon careful scrutiny.
The Apostle Paul admits that the wisdom of YAHWEH was hidden in a mystery before the world, "But we speak the wisdom of YAHWEH in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which YAHWEH ordained before the world unto our glory: which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Sovereign of glory," 1 Cor. 2:7-8.
We also know that the Savior came speaking in parables in order to keep all but His disciples blinded (Mt. 13:10-17). Furthermore, the book of Hebrews admits that the covenant, the divine service, the worldly sanctuary (the tabernacle) with its appurtenances, priesthood and sacrifices were all parables (Heb. 9:9 which admits that these were "figures" but this word is translated from the Greek word "parabole" which elsewhere is rendered as parable). These parables were even utilized to blind the children of Israel (Ro. 11). This is all for YAHWEH'S own purposes.
This brother utilizes Isa. 43:10-11 to establish his premise that YAHshua could not have been an El, but let’s look at what Isaiah says, "Ye are My witnesses,’ saith YAHWEH, ‘And My servant Whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no El formed, neither shall there be after Me. I, even I, am YAHWEH; and beside Me there is no Savior."
True, these Scriptures say that YAHWEH is El and there was none before Him nor will there be any after Him. But notice that He also says that He is the Savior and there is also no Savior beside Him. Thus, if we have to conclude from these Scriptures that YAHshua is no El, then we also have to conclude that neither is He the Savior. How is it that this brother can deduct one thing from these Scriptures, but cannot deduct the other, because he does claim that he believes YAHshua is the Savior?
Isn’t YAHWEH comparing Himself with the elohim of the nations in these Scriptures and is making these statements in that context? Again, this brother utilizes Isa. 45:22 to establish that YAHshua is no El, but let’s go back to verse 20 and read through 22, "Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a elohim that cannot save. Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? Who hath told it from that time? Have not I YAHWEH? And there is no Elohim beside Me; a just El and a Saviour; there is none beside Me. Look unto Me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am El, and there is none else."
As stated, the Scriptures are written in mysteries and parables. The New Testament and the Old Testament go hand in hand as a double edged sword. The New Testament explains the mysteries and parables of the Old Testament. If we must stick to these Scriptures (Isa. 43:10-11 and Isa. 45:21-22) as this brother interprets them, then we must discard any idea that YAHshua is Elohim or Savior. We must discard His words that He spoke for He proclaimed that He existed before Abraham, that He existed with the Father before the foundation of the world. We must also discard the witness of the apostles, in other words, we must discard the New Testament altogether, turn only to the Old Testament seeking to re-institute the Levitical priesthood, fleshly circumcision, sacrifices, etc.
John writes, "No man hath seen Elohim (the Father) at any time; the only begotten Son, Which is in the bosom of the Father, He hath declared Him," 1:18.
Adam and Eve saw YAHWEH Elohim. Moses saw YAHWEH, the 70 elders saw Him, etc. so if no man has seen the Father at any time then just who did they see? The answer is simple enough, they saw the One Who was in His bosom, the One Who became the Son.
In another place YAHshua said, "It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall be all taught of Elohim.’ Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto Me. Not that any man hath seen the Father, save He Which is of Elohim, He hath seen the Father," Jn. 6:45-46.
When this brother enumerated the three things that are mentioned in the New Testament that he believes are not mentioned in the Old Testament, he should have included the Heavenly Father for no man had seen Him at any time, neither had they heard His voice nor seen His image (Jn. 5:37). According to YAHshua's own words, He came to reveal and proclaim the Father to us.
On page 2 of Exhibit #3, this brother follows suit as the other two Exhibits in attempting to cause the word ‘Logos’ to mean less than what the Apostle John is focusing on and causing it to mean. Thus, we must also lump our conclusion concerning this Exhibit along with the conclusions of the other two.
THE WORDS OF THE SAVIOR
YAHshua said several things that are very important to focus on, pay heed to and believe. Those who deny His pre-existence fail to believe these words and utilize contrived devises in order to nullify and disbelieve them. Here are many of His statements which are contradicted and denied by non pre-existence believers:
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but My Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of Elohim is He Which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world...For I came down from heaven, not to do Mine Own will, but the will of Him that sent Me…I am the living bread Which came down from heaven...This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever...What and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where He was before?," Jn. 5:32-33, 38, 51, 58, 62.
"And He said unto them, ‘Ye are from beneath; I am from above; ye are of this world; I am not of this world...I speak that which I have seen with My Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father...Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am," Jn. 8:23, 38, 58.
"I and My Father are One," Jn. 10:30.
"I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father," Jn. 16:28.
"And now, O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was," Jn. 17:5.
The Apostle Paul also witnesses, "And so it is written, ‘The first man Adam was made a living soul;’ the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is from heaven," 1 Cor. 15:45-47.
The words "of" and "from" which I have emboldened in these verses come from the Greek word "ek." Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance defines this word as; a primary preposition denoting origin (the point whence action or motion proceeds), from, out (of place, time, or cause; literal or figurative; direct or remote):--after, among, X are, at, betwixt(-yond), by (the means of), exceedingly, (+ abundantly above), for(- th), from (among, forth, up), + grudgingly, + heartily, X heavenly, X hereby, + very highly, in, ...ly, (because, by reason) of, off (from), on, out among (from, of), over, since, X thenceforth, through, X unto, X vehemently, with(-out). Often used in composition, with the same general import; often of completion.
Does this not confirm from whence YAHshua came? Does this not confirm YAHshua's words? The first Adam’s point of origin is the earth. The second Adam’s (YAHshua's) point of origin is heaven.
Brethren, you either believe the Savior or you don’t. Remember, His sheep hear His voice. Peter quoted a warning from Moses, "And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that Prophet, shall be destroyed from among the People," Acts 3:23. We encourage you to hear and believe the true words of the One Who was sent, YAHshua the Messiah, HalleluYAH!!!
