Tiger Pride Marching Band
Regional Marching Contest 2001
The Tiger Pride
Marching Band, under the direction of Mike Arnold & Donna Casey,
had a very successful marching season in 2001. The show, a Caribbean
theme, won numerous awards and high ratings. Musical selections included
"Day-O" with vocal soloist Travis Spurling sporting dreadlocks
and surrounded by palm trees, as if the audience had stepped off of
a cruise ship onto a tropical island. This was followed by the high
energy arrangement of "Salsa and Chimps" featuring soloists
Cade Carlson and Matt Herring. The percussion feature, "Island
Dance", featured ocean waves, a surfboard, and a shark. And who
could forget the warning of "SHARK" by Kanisha Clark? The
flutes got a chance to show their stuff on "Flamingo Lips".
The final selection was "Jamaica Farewell".
This year's show promises to be equally
entertaining. The Tiger Pride Band will do its rendition of "The
Music Man". And with the addition of new colorguard instructor
Saundra Arnold, (also new to Mr. Arnold, congrats!) the show promises
to hold a few surprises for the audience. Listeners will tap their toes
to the opener "76 Trombones" and enjoy a comical arrangement
of "Goodnight My Someone". The percussion feature this year
will be a departure from the normal, as the drummers will play on"unusual"
instruments ranging from 20 gallon trash cans to cast iron wash tubs.
Listen for the excerpts from different songs found in the "Music
Man". This selection is entitled "Noises On" with a few
additions. The band will show off its musicality on "Till There
Was You" and end with a reprisal of "76 Trombones".
