AcolytesGenerally serviced by our junior high and high school students, they tend to the church candles during services and assist the pastor and elders during the distribution of Holy Communion. Adult Information ClassIs offered on a continuous basis in the pastor’s office at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Call the church office to sign up. No cost. Altar GuildThe Altar Guild prepares the chancel and the Sacraments for the service, and also by cleaning the vessels after the service and caring for the linens and paraments. The scheduling of flowers is also an activity of the Altar Guild. Bethany Lutheran HomeTimothy is one of 15 churches supporting Bethany Home. Every woman of the congregation is a member of the Bethany Home Auxiliary, which serves “to promote love in action for the residents; to assist with activities and projects for the residents, and to promote volunteer service in the home by serving in areas that otherwise would require paid staff.” Bible Study, MidweekAdditional Bible study is offered during the week on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. Bible Study, Saturday MorningThe Saturday Morning Bible study is in the church library and begins at 9:00 a.m. People with busy work weeks are invited to come at this time and share the blessings of God's Word. Bible Study, Sunday MorningTwo classes are offered at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Come to the Library or the Fellowship Hall. CatechismCatechism is a two-year program beginning at grade seven. Parents attend and help their children learn the six chief parts of the Catechism. Classes extend through the school year and culminate with Confirmation on Palm Sunday. Sessions are held Wednesday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. ChoirThe adult choir (ninth grade and older) meets September through May at 7:30 p.m. on Wed. evenings and adds songs of praise to our worship services. All are invited to join. Christian OutreachSeeks to make visitors feel welcome. This group works to coordinate the efforts of greeters, ushers, and pew monitors to make visitors feel welcome. This is a great place to fit in if you can only help the Church on Sunday mornings. Directors, Board ofThe Board of Directors consists of the officers of the congregation, and the chairpersons of the major boards and committees. The Board of Directors meets monthly and acts upon recommendations of the various boards and committees, and coordinates the activities and affairs of the congregation. Education, Board of ChristianThe Board of Education oversees the total educational program of the congregation, including the Sunday School Bible Classes, Confirmation, Preschool, Vacation Bible School, and the library. Elders, Board ofThe Board of Elders works with the Pastor to oversee the spiritual welfare and conduct of the church. They encourage members to a fuller share in the life, mission and ministry of Timothy. The elders particularly supervise the work of the pastors, music director, ushers and acolytes. Evangelism, Board ofThe Board of Evangelism seeks to bring the Gospel to the unchurched and to enlist all of God's people in the work of spreading the Gospel They work to make sure that all visitors to our congregation receive a friendly welcome. GreetersVolunteers agree to welcome all members as they enter church and establish a first-contact with visitors. Couples often do this together. Their commitment is usually for one Sunday every two months or so. Instrumental EnsembleThis is an informal group of musicians who lend their musical talents to special occasions. If you have experience with an instrument and whish to contribute to the music of the church, contact the Music Director. L.W.M.L.The LWML is affiliated with the International Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. It serves the church and community through special projects and fundraisers for missions, nursing homes, and congregational needs. Lutheran BrotherhoodLB, as part of their benevolence responsibilities, undertakes funding and assistance for various congregational service projects. Lutherans For LifeLutherans for Life is an organization dedicated to promoting the sanctity of life for all ages, including the preborn. Each year in January, one Sunday is set aside to remember our responsibility to promote and uphold God’s gift of life. Men’s Bible Study GroupSunday mornings at 9:15 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall overflow area. Narcotics AnonymousMeets every Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall, to support those who are overcoming the power of drug addictions. Pew MonitorsPew monitors “adopt” a certain number of pews during their attendance at regular church services and look out for guests who may need some assistance. They seek to carry the initial friendliness of the greeters into the sanctuary and help visitors with any questions before, during, or after the service. Praise TeamThe "Praise Team" leads the worship on Sunday mornings at our contemporary service. They meet for devotion & practice, Wed. at 7:30 p.m. Participants should be comfortable singing in small groups before the congregation. Timothy Lutheran PreschoolChristian principles are taught and practiced in the classroom. Our teacher has an elementary education degree and provides quality programs. Classes meet on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, either in the morning 9:00-11:15 a.m., or afternoon - 1:00-3:15 p.m. For additional information, call 323-5077. Property Management CommitteeThe Property and Management committee oversees the maintenance, improvement, equipment, and use of the church building and grounds. As part of that activity, they supervise the custodial services. Senior Citizens Westside Senior CenterMeets every day, Monday – Friday at 12:00 p.m. for meals, bingo, cards, field trips, arts & crafts, exercise activities, nutrition counseling, and entertainment. Suggested price of meals: $2.50, but free will offering taken. Please make meal reservations a day in advance at (712) 328-8117. Shut-In MinistryVolunteers visit our members and friends who are physically unable to attend worship services. Each shut-in receives a monthly visit from one volunteer, in addition to the visits by a pastor. Volunteers meet the 2nd Thursday of each month at 1:00 p.m. A devotion is followed by reports on each member visited. Social MinistryThe Board of Social Ministry administers programs designed to meet the physical needs of members of our congregation as well as the needs of families and individuals in our community. Stephen MinistryStephen Ministry cares for those going through a crisis. Stephen Ministers train for 50 hours before meeting with a care receiver. Continuing bi-monthly education keeps their skills sharp. Confidentiality is important yet they work together to show God's love to Timothy and the surrounding community. [More] StewardshipThe Board of Stewardship urges members to dedicate their time, talent, and treasure to God’s kingdom. Special areas of responsibility include the annual stewardship program and budget preparations. Sunday SchoolOur children, ages 3 – high school meet from 9:15-10:15 a.m. Adult classes meet for small group studies. Coffee is available in the fellowship hall. Visiting children are welcome any time and can be enrolled in a class in our Sunday school office, located at the foot of the stairs. ThriventThrivent, as part of their benevolence responsibilities, undertakes funding and assistance for various congregational service projects. They also provide donuts and coffee for our Sunday morning fellowship. Trinity Lutheran Interparish SchoolTLIS assists parents in the religious and educational instruction of their children. We have a professional staff of four. Currently serving kindergarten through 6th grade, Trinity is located at 1500 N. 16th St. Hours for children are 8:30-3:15 p.m. Timothy currently has three board members serving on Trinity’s School Board, with the pastor in an advisory position. UshersUshers maintain decorum and flow through the worship service by directing people in various activities. They especially help direct members and guests to their seats, to the Communion Table, and to the giving of offerings. Voters AssemblyThe Voters' Assembly conducts all major business of the congregation, including the call of professional church workers, the sale or purchase of buildings and property, the election of officers, and the approval of budgets. All communicant members of the congregation are voters. Meetings are held as needed. Youth MinistryThe Board of Youth engages our young people in all levels of ministry. The youth are nurtured and taught to become ambassadors of His word through the availability of youth programming such as: Bible study, fun events, and more. [More] |
