This area is dedicated to the many projects I've taken on over the years. As you can see they cover a wide range of materials and techniques. The common denominator is working with my hands. As far back as I can remember I took things apart just to see what made them tick… sometimes I even got them back together and they actually worked! Anyhow, working wood, metal, glass and anything else I had the urge to just comes naturally. If genetics has anything to do with it I'm fortunate to have descended from a long line of craftsmen. My dad was in construction his entire life, from the trades right on up to management. His dad was a machinist and my grandfather on my mother's side also is an accomplished woodworker in his own right.
My woodworking and construction skills were taught to me by my dad or self-taught over the years. I have no formal construction training and only a few wood shop classes in high school. In years past I was a school trained welder and machinist in both high school and the Army, though I do little metal work now.
Some have asked about my "shop"… well it isn't much; it's actually just our one car, 23 foot X 12 foot, single car garage that stuffed to the rafters. There's not much room with all the tools and junk, err, good stuff. This page shows some of the space and tools. I'd like to build a real shop with more room, but we're a bit land challenged here. Expanding isn't an option due to the zoning restrictions nor is moving to a bigger place. We really enjoy the lake out back and at the current real-estate costs in our area, we can't touch anything on the water with more land for less than $500,000. Needless to say that's not an option on public safety pay…
