An annotated list of sites I've found while cruising the Net. As usual, my own opinions are my own, and no other unfortunate being or group of beings is responsible for them.
Gospelcom.net's Apologia page will provide you with resources for talking to Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Buddhists, or just people within our American culture. What the site provides is "weekly summaries of the latest research for apologetics," so it may not be directly useful; however, you will get pointers to relevant sites, information about their listserv, and of course, relevant news items (5/9/00).
Ravi Zacharias International Ministries exists "to reach and challenge those who shape the ideas of a culture with the credibility of the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST." For obvious reasons, this site is more targeted toward marketing media materials than giving away stuff for free; however, it does include book reviews and audio archives (requires Real Audio) (5/9/00).
This wonderful site exists for the purpose "Building Christian Thinkers for the Public Defenseof the Faith" and has transcriptions of excellent radio broadcasts, sorted by topic. This is a great resource! (5/9/00)
Search the Bible (New American Standard Version, New International Version, King James Version and others) in nine languages. This is a great site! (5/9/00)
The site description says, " Classic Christian books in electronic format, selected for your edification. There is enough good reading material here to last you a lifetime, if you give each work the time it deserves!" They're right. From the early church fathers to the Reformation and beyond, there are Christian classics to fuel your devotions, inspire your prayers, or meet your need for Christian teaching. If you want to learn more about God, this is a great site to visit (5/9/00).
The Bible commands us to owe nothing to anyone, except to love one another. I'm not sure if I'll ever get there, but if God has been dealing with you on financial accountability, visit Larry Burkett's website (5/9/00).
You will find some great articles in Dallas/Fort Worth Heritage, "a monthly Christian newspaper based in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas Metroplex area." It's not just for Texans (5/9/00).
Maybe this is hokey, but I love my church and I love my denomination. The EFCA is a Bible-believing association of autonomous churches, dedicated to planting new churches and living out the redemptive purposes of God. Find out about individual churches, read our doctrinal statement, and discover Christian resources. There are no Swedish jokes online, but if you visit an E. Free church in Minnesota, you can hear them all (and groan, too, I bet) (5/9/00).
I don't think I can describe the site better than the authors do, so let me just quote them: " The Evangelical Free Church Mission is the nternational ministry of the Evangelical Free Church of America and exists to glorify God through making disciples of Jesus Christ and incorporating them into reproducing congregations with the goal of launching church planting movements internationally." You can find out about short-term mission opportunities and more (5/9/00).
Well, if you've been looking for a link to Hardcore Christian Motorcyclists, you'll find it here. Although this is not a comprehensive site, it's got some interesting moments. Need I say more? (5/9/00)
Study 30 books of the Bible or the life of Christ. I haven't looked at these in depth, but Mark Doud's doctrinal statement seems to me to be in agreement with evangelical doctrine, and the individual studies probably are doctrinally correct (I hope that's not like being politcally correct!) as well. I would definitely look through these if you have been chosen to lead a Bible study and are looking for ideas (5/9/00).
Includes links to the Creation Research Library, Bible games & software, and lots more than I could possibly describe, including links to periodicals, organizations, and apologetics. There is a LOT on this site (5/9/00).
I know you are just panting for access to the Free Christian Software Directory. Don't forget to browse the back issues of Christian Software News while you're at it.
Fascinating stuff. May keep you busy for 2000 years - just kidding, folks! However, if you do read it all, would you please email me, and let me know how long it took you to finish? TIA [Thanks in advance] (5/9/00).
This is big, folks, really big. Be discerning, my wise-as-serpents, innocent-as-doves beloved brethren (5/9/00).
Most of us are fortunate enough to be pretty clear about our gender issues, and comfortable with heterosexual identities. But others have gender confusion, have been caught up in sexual addictions, homosexuality, or transsexuality; and the world offers these wounded people no hope and no way out. If you or someone you know needs the freedom Christ intended for us, be encouraged. It truly was for freedom that Christ set us free. No one need be enslaved to pornography, degrading sexual practices, or a life of lonely shame. Find healing and restoration with the help of brothers and sisters in Christ who have been there (5/9/00).
My own home church - a great place to be. Come see what we're all about! (5/9/00).
I have grown more from reading the Jews for Jesus newsletters than by reading most Christian materials. They have a real heart for truth, and this site has some great materials for outreach (want to know how to talk to someone from a different faith? Check out this site's links!). I really love these people, because they really love the Lord and, believe me, they do not take Jesus or the body of Christ for granted (5/9/00).
Lifeguard Ministries has great resources for parents and teens. Testimonies from ex-gays, links to other orgs, and tips for dealing with a gay child are only part of what's on this site (5/9/00).
The author of this site invites us to " discover what the King of Kings and Lord of Glory, Jesus the Messiah, is doing in the Great South Land of the Holy Spirit (and elsewhere!)." If you're in the US, you may find that these pages load slowly - it's because the data is traveling, literally, around the world. However, it's worth the wait, because you'll be edified by what you find here (5/9/00).
Another shameless plug for my own home church, this time for our youth group. God is doing some great work in these kids' lives. Check it out! (5/9/00).
If you're not Pentecostal, I don't know what you'll make of this page; however, I'm fascinated by the idea that God can move mightily and miraculously in our midst, renewing our hearts and minds while rebuilding the society around us. There are testimonies of great Christians from the past, information about movements of renewal (past and present), 10/40 mission links, and information about the persecuted church. Definitely a worthwhile site (5/9/00).
More Christians have died for their faith in this century than throughout the church's history. Your prayers and letters can make a difference. Find out how you can help (5/9/00).
I haven't made up my mind on all the doctrinal issues related to this area, but tremendous things happened to my spiritual life when I tried incorporating some of these practices into my prayer life. I'm not the woman with all the answers, but if you're feeling empty and dry in your Christian walk, please prayerfully consider this site (5/9/00).
You will find links to art and music resources from many of the sites above, including sound files, chord charts and worship materials. In addition, consider the following:
Using the web to build a community of Christian artists from all disciplines online, brought to you by Christianity and the Arts magazine.
Wow, are you ever gonna see some beautiful art here. Also there are Catholic resources and links. I find visual images make great prayer prompts. If you're like me, you can spend a lot of time here (5/9/00).
Okay, some of you are going to find this insulting and some of you are going to find this frankly unbelievable, but a man can be with the Bill Gaither Band for 12 years, and still be cool and funny. Don't believe it? Check this out (5/9/00)
Sorry, folks, but I've run out of steam. Next update, I'll try to get some more stuff on here for you. In the meanwhile, you can check my Student-Teacher Links. Many religious texts are available in the etext collections there, and there are also periodicals and newspapers from around the world. Happy hunting!
If you want to learn about Islam or about Muslim cultures, this should get you started (5/9/00).
