Old Poway Park Rendevous

Sunday, March 20, 2005
14134 Midland Road
Poway, CA

Trails and Rails

Walt and Paula joined the festivities on Sunday between 11-3, playing and singing songs of the 1800s. Many visitors sang along, surprised at how many of these songs they knew!

What happens at the Rendevous?

More than 25 living historical encampments are set up, giving you a chance to meet cowboys, buckaroos, mountain men and women demonstrating what it was like to live in the turn-of-the-century and Civil War eras. The historical fair brings these eras to life with the smell of campfires, and the sounds of civil war era cannons, steam train whistles, and scattered shots from mock gun-fights. Experience period costumes, crafts, tomahawk throwing lessons, and much more. For more information on the Rendezvous in Poway, please contact (858) 668-4576.

AT THE RAILROAD MUSEUM IN CAMPO

http://www.sdrm.org/

Monday, September 5th, 2005

PSRM has collected all the surviving locomotives and railroad cars native to San Diego County, many of them more than a century old. The all volunteer Museum has been running trains on 16 miles of the old San Diego & Arizona track in the back country of San Diego since 1986. Formed in 1961 they have amassed a collection of over 90 vintage cars and locomotives.

To Get to the Railroad Museum go out freeway 8 to the first exit past Sunrise Highway. This is Buckman Springs Road. Go south 12 miles to the junction with highway 94. (Cameron Corners) turn right. Go about a mile till you pass the Old Stone Store (Scene of San Diego County's most notorious bandit shoot out in 1878) cross the railroad tracks and turn left. Follow the signs to the Campo Depot parking lot just past the sand loading enclosure.
