Nathan Boone, at age 16 traveled with his father Daniel Boone and mother Rebecca to Missouri, which at time was held by Spain.  They settled near St. Charles, which is in the St. Louis area.  Nathan Built a beautiful home of native limestone.

Nathan posted a bond for a local politician, unfortunately money came up missing.  Nathan was forced to sell the property to satisfy the bond.  Nathan joined the Army to bring in additional income.  His Army duties took him into Iowa, Kansas and Indian Territory (present Oklahoma)  His family moved to Ashgrove, Missouri which is near Springfield

The family arrived at Ashgrove and built a double dog trot home.  In effect, a double dogtrot is two log cabins with a breezeway between.  Both homes and breezeway covered by one roof.  Nathan continued traveling with the Army and left Olive and the children to tend the farm.  The Boone's owned several slaves.

Some of Boone's children did not join him in the Ashgrove area since they had already grown and were married.

The home is now a state park.  The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is currently excavating the site and the home is open during special times, such as the Nathan Boone Rendezvous.
