Today Kendall's adoption will be final. We had to get up early and first go to the Social Welfare office to sign some papers. Then it was off to the registry office to sign more papers and get the official adoption certificate. Kendall still isn't sure about riding in the car. The ride is bumpy in the van and she is just setting on my lap. There are lots of stops and turns and she gets bounced around a lot in the car. At the registry office they take our picture together as a family for the adoption certificate. They want all our faces together at the same level so they ask Tim to hold Kendall up. She still is not sure about Daddy and starts wailing while they take the picture. They gave her some small toy to hold during the picture and that calms her down some, but then they took it away and she started wailing again. Trish can calm her down after a little bit.
After the certificate is finished, we are asked if we will love this child and give her all the rights as our biological child, to which we agree. The Japanese film crew is there again and asks us how we feel at this moment. We tell them we are very excited and happy to have Kendall in our family.
After the registry office we go to the notary office and pay the fees to have all our documents notarized so they are official. Another bumpy ride and Kendall is getting tired. This is the last stage for the day, but after 3 hours we are ready to head back to the hotel. We gave Kendall some lunch and all tried to rest a bit. She is very tired and goes down for a nap with only a little bit of fussing.
After her nap, she got up and played a little bit. She has finally decided that the toys are ok and enjoys trying to stack them all up close to her. She is trying to figure out how to hold 3 pooh toys in one hand.
We decided to walk down the street and try a pizza place. They don't speak any English but fortunately have a menu in English so we place an order. Kendall is watching a little boy about Mitchell's size having dinner with his parents. The pizza comes and is not like pizza at home, which we expected. The crust is very buttery and there is not any sauce on the pizza. The vegetable pizza has tomatoes, corn, some spicy peppers and cheese and the other pizza has meat and pineapple. I'm not sure what kind of meat this is but it is similar to ham.
After dinner we bring Kendall home and give her a bath. She still is not fond of baths but does a little better tonight. We settle her down and get her to rest. It has been a long day, but it is exciting that she is really ours! There are many adjustments ahead for her (and for us), but we know she is beginning to get used to us and trust us as her parents.
