Today we got up early to leave for the airport. This is the first night Kendall has not slept well. She never really woke up in the night, but she was very restless, crying in her sleep and moving all over the bed. We had to move her arms and legs 3 or 4 times in the night because she had them stuck outside the crib. She woke up in a good mood though and we got off to the airport on time.
Once at the airport we managed to get through security. This is difficult when carrying a baby and carry-on luggage as well. One of the security guards offered to take Kendall and she really cried. We managed and made it to our gate. Mommy was already tired from carrying Kendall and she didn't want to sit down, so Daddy took Kendall for a while. She wasn't sure at first, but did ok and they walked around the airport together. This is the first time that Tim has been able to hold Kendall without her screaming terribly.
We wait for a little over an hour at the airport before it is time to board. The waiting area at the gate is very crowded, so we know it will be a full flight. We are the only Americans on this flight! When it is time to board, the man opened the door to the gate and just announced "Guangzhou", then everyone headed for the door all at once. There was no order to the boarding and it was a little chaotic. We managed to get through the doorway and onto the plane. Kendall really did not like sitting down at first and screamed for about 10 minutes. Everyone on the plane kept looking at us like we were doing something terrible to this child. She finally settled down and was a very good traveler. She fell asleep about 10 minutes before we were to land, and of course she woke up when we landed and was not very happy. We made it off the plane and found our luggage. Our guide, Wayne, was waiting for us and we headed off for the hotel.
Our room wasn't quite ready when we arrived, so we walked around the island a little bit and Wayne showed us the best places to get groceries, have laundry done, and where to eat. It is very convenient here for families and there are many shops selling tourist items and clothing for babies. Everything is very reasonably priced.
We get settled in the hotel and then off for some groceries before we meet the other families to do some paperwork. We finished up our consulate paperwork all together with our guide helping us fill out all the needed forms. Then we all met for dinner and had some wonderful Cantonese Thai food. Then it was time for bed. Kendall is sleeping well most of the time, but this new place makes it harder for her to fall asleep. We manage and hope for more new things for Kendall tomorrow.
