1.  CHRISTOPHER1 AVERY was born Abt. 1550 in Torbryan, Devonshire, England, and died Bef. 1613 in Newton Abbott, Devon, England.  He married JOHANNA UNKNOWN in England.  She was born 1552 in England, and died Aft. 1597 in Newton Abbott, Devon, England.

THE GROTON AVERY CLAN, Vol. I, by Avery & Avery, page 27, 28.

     Aug. 6, 1613, at Newton Abbott, Devon, the inventory of the estate of a Christopher Avery was exhibited. It was dated July 26, 1613 and made mention of "Too pare of loums and certayne Implements to his trade belongeing." Thus we know that the testator was a weaver. His "relicte", Johann Avery, was made administrator of the estate. This Christopher Avery, the father of Christopher the emigrant, was of Torbrian, in the archdeaconry of Totnes. One of the witnesses to the above mentioned inventory was Hugh Sweete, whose name later appears on two other documents which may relate to our Christopher Avery.

 

   Averys of Groton says he was a weaver. The inventory of his estate was exhibited Aug. 6, 1613, at Newton Abbott, Devon. It was dated July 26, 1613, and mentioned "Too pare of loums and certayne Implements to his trade belongeing."

   The Groton Avery Clan adds that his "relicte", Johann Avery, was made administrator of the estate.

   An AF record lists the birth date. Another says born in Totares.

   The Groton Avery Clan says Christopher Sr. apparently had a second son, John, who remained in England and in turn had a son named John.

   An AF record lists such a son and gives birthplace and approximate birth date, but it is the same as that for James.
