1808- Buncombe Co., NC records show that John Peter Corn and either a brother or a son, John, purchased land on the French Broad River. His son, John , would have been in his 20th year. It is no clear whether this is a son, brother or other close relative.

In the same year, 1808, William Bailey, born in 1764 who married a Nancy Malinda Corn in 1793 had moved westward and purchased 100 acres of land along the French Broad River. Nancy Malinda was a sister to John Peter Corn.

In 1830 John Peter sold his land on top of the Blue Ridge to Judge Mitchell King, a prominent judge from Charleston, SC. He then purchased a larger tract of 500 acres on the old Howard Gap road on Devil's Fork and near the Ebenezer Church, where he lived for the remaining years of his life. He and his wife are buried in the Cemetery at the Ebenezer Church on Bat Cove Road in Hendersonville, NC. There are at least two of his sons and perhaps others of the large family buried here as well.

4. Funeral; Oct 1843; Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cemetery, Hendersonville, NC. 10John Peter lived to age 92. His wife Hanna died 10 years later at age 89.

The funeral of John Peter was conducted under Army regulations.

Both the Cavalry and the Infantry took part. It was one of the most sacred and touching funerals that had ever been witnessed by the people at that time. The two Companies seemed to have been rather in the background while the religious ceremony took place. They then stepped forward with drum, pipe and bugle as the Infantry marched to the grave site, half on one side and half on the other. They then all fired blank shots into the empty grave. This was immediately followed by the Cavalry marching by in double formation, quick time, firing their rifles into the grave. This ceremony had never been witnessed in this part of the country. Some of the folks there were praying, some were shouting, a few even fainted.

A grandson of John Peter, George Henry Corn, tells of this. He was there as a child. It was also verified by his older brother Jesse Marion Corn. Both were present and passed on this account.

John married Hannah Elizabeth Parr-[7] [MRIN:2], daughter of John Parr-[6257] and Miriam __________-[6258], on 24 May 1781 in Henry Co., VA. (Hannah Elizabeth Parr-[7] was born on 14 Jun 1765 in Virginia, died on 16 Mar 1863 in Hendersonville, Henderson Co., NC and was buried in Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cemetery.)
