1.  THOMAS3 ELMORE III  (THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1700 in New Kent County, Virginia, and died Bet. May 14, 1747 - May 19, 1749 in Amelia County, Virginia.  He married CECILIA ELLYSON July 09, 1729 in Black Creek MM, New Kent Co., VA, daughter of GERRARD ELLYSON and ANNE MYHILL.  She was born 1704 in New Kent County, Virginia1, and died Abt. 1772 in Rowan County, North Carolina.

Below is a copy of the certificate of marriage of Thomas Elmore and Cicilia Ellyson recorded on p. 122 of "The Record Book Belonging to the Monthly Meeting of Friends in Henrico County beginning from the year 1699 to the year 1756 Inclusive," a transcription of which is in the Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia.

" Whereas Thomas Elmore, son of Thomas Elmore of the county of New Kent, and Cicelee Ellyson, daughter of G. Robt. Ellyson of the same county having declared their intention of taking each other in marriage before several pulick meetings of the people of God, called Quakers in Virginia according to the good order used among them whose proceding therein after deliberate consideration thereof (with Regards to the Righteous Law of God and Exampell of his peopell Recorded in the Scriptures of Truth in that case) were approved by the sd meetings They appearing cleare of all others and Having Concent of parents and friends conerned--

"Now these are to certify all whome it may concern that for the full accomplishing their sd intentions this ninth day of ye 5/mo call'd July 1729 They the Sayd Thomas Elmore and Cecilia Elyson apearing in a publick meeting of the afore sd peopill and others met together In their publick meeting place at Black Creek In the afore said county and in Solemn maner He the Sd Thomas Elmore taking the Sd Cecelia Elison by the hand did opinly declare as followeth You are this day my witnesses that I doe take this my friend Cecelia Elyson to be my wife promising with the Lord's assistance to be to her a faithful and Loving Husand till Deth.

"And then and their in the Sd Assembly the Sd Cecelia Ellyson did in like manner declare as followeth You are my witnesses that I doe this day take this my friend Thomas Ellmore to be my Husband promising to him a faithful and Loving wife Till Deth -- and the (said) Thomas Ellmore and Cicilia Elyson as a farther conformation there of did then and their to these presence set their hands and we whose names are hereto subscribed being present among others at the Solemnizing of there sd mariage and subscription in manner aforesd, as

WILL of Thomas Elmore, copied from records of Virginia, p. 56 or 36 Will Book No. 1, Amelia Co.

"In the name of God, Amen. I, Thomas Elmore of the county of New Kent in good health and memory, do dispose of my worldly estate as follows, viz:-

My will is that my Plantation whereon I now live, containing two hundred acres be the same more or less, and my part of the mill shall be sold to raise money to pay my just debts, and if the Land and Mill should sell for more money than will pay my debts the over plus to return to my estate again.

Item 1. I lend to my beloved wife Secelia Elmore during her widowhood one third of my land, in Amelia County upon Franklin's Creek, (meaning the plantation). Item. I give and bequeath to my three sons Archelas Elmore, Abijah Elmore and Thomas Elmore all my land in Amelia County containing five hundred acres, be the same more or less to be equally divided among them three, and to take choice according to their birthright. Item. I give my son Thomas Elmore, five pounds, current money for the use of his scooling. Item. I give and bequeath to my three daughters Secelia Elmore, Judith Elmore, Mary Elmore, four pounds, ten shillings current money to be laid out equally upon their scooling. I lend to my beloved wife Secelia all the rest of my personal estate both goods and chattels, during her widowhood But if she marry then to be equally divided among my seven children Archelas, Abijah, Hannah, Cecelia, Thomas, Judith and Mary to be used for them and their heirs forever. I do appoint my wife Secelia Elmore Exetrix of this my last will. I desire that my estate may not be appraised. As witness my hand and seal this the sixth day of March one thousand seven hundred and forty seven.

Archelas Elmore was a Quaker. Abijah and Thomas Elmore, brothers of Archelas, were also Quakers and moved to Ohio.

Thomas Elmore (father of Archelas) moved from Hanover Co., Virginia, to Amelia Co.

John Archer Elmore had a son named V. M. Elmore.

Thomas Elmore, brother of Gen. John A. and Betsy, moved to Kentucky. One daughter married a Ward.

Mrs. Mary Elmore Scott, daughter of Gen. John Archer Elmore, gave information concerning family to Norton B. Wellborn.
