Below is a copy of the certificate of marriage of
Thomas Elmore and Cicilia Ellyson recorded on p. 122 of "The Record Book
Belonging to the Monthly Meeting of Friends in Henrico County beginning from
the year 1699 to the year 1756 Inclusive," a transcription of which is in
the Valentine Museum, Richmond, Virginia.
" Whereas Thomas Elmore, son of Thomas Elmore
of the county of New Kent, and Cicelee Ellyson, daughter of G. Robt. Ellyson of
the same county having declared their intention of taking each other in
marriage before several pulick meetings of the people of God, called Quakers in
Virginia according to the good order used among them whose proceding therein
after deliberate consideration thereof (with Regards to the Righteous Law of
God and Exampell of his peopell Recorded in the Scriptures of Truth in that
case) were approved by the sd meetings They appearing cleare of all others and
Having Concent of parents and friends conerned--
"Now these are to certify all whome it may
concern that for the full accomplishing their sd intentions this ninth day of
ye 5/mo call'd July 1729 They the Sayd Thomas Elmore and Cecilia Elyson
apearing in a publick meeting of the afore sd peopill and others met together
In their publick meeting place at Black Creek In the afore said county and in
Solemn maner He the Sd Thomas Elmore taking the Sd Cecelia Elison by the hand
did opinly declare as followeth You are this day my witnesses that I doe take
this my friend Cecelia Elyson to be my wife promising with the Lord's
assistance to be to her a faithful and Loving Husand till Deth.
"And then and their in the Sd Assembly the Sd
Cecelia Ellyson did in like manner declare as followeth You are my witnesses
that I doe this day take this my friend Thomas Ellmore to be my Husband
promising to him a faithful and Loving wife Till Deth -- and the (said) Thomas
Ellmore and Cicilia Elyson as a farther conformation there of did then and
their to these presence set their hands and we whose names are hereto
subscribed being present among others at the Solemnizing of there sd mariage
and subscription in manner aforesd, as
"Witness hereunto have also to these presents

"In the name of God, Amen. I, Thomas Elmore
of the

should sell for more money than will pay my debts the over plus to return to my
estate again.

Thomas Elmore (father of Archelas) moved from

Thomas Elmore, brother of Gen. John A. and Betsy,
moved to
Mrs. Mary Elmore Scott, daughter of Gen. John
Archer Elmore, gave information concerning family to Norton B. Wellborn.
