Truman Harris

Truman holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The University of North Texas, & Master of Music from The Catholic University Of America.  He is Assistant Principal Bassoonist of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, DC, and bassoonist of The Capitol Woodwind Quintet and Eclipse Chamber Orchestra , where he is also composer-in-residence. Truman has completed part of a Master of Science degree in computer science from Marymount University .

 His Prelude (for 12 violas) was performed by the National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leonard Slatkin in February, 1996.  Morning Music for string orchestra was first performed by Eclipse Chamber Orchestra in 1997; and Suite for Wind Quintet in 1997, by The Capitol Woodwind Quintet.

His Concertino for Horn and Chamber Orchestra is being recorded for the Naxos label by NSO assoc. prin. horn, Laurel Ohlson, & Eclipse Chamber Orchestra conducted by Sylvia Alimena.
His Concertino for Flute and Chamber Orchestra is also being recorded for Naxos by NSO flutist Alice Kogan Weinreb and Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Sylvia Alimena. Autumn Dances for wind quintet is also being recorded by members of Eclipse Chamber Orchestra.
Truman's The Mad Hatter, for contrabassoon and chamber ensemble, was premiered at the International Double Reed Society  convention in Austin, Texas in 2006 by Lewis Lipnick, NSO contrabassoonist, and local performers.

In 2007 his Suite for flute, horn, & bassoon was premiered, and Ricky-tick Nightmare for bassoon and piano was published by
Trevco Music.

Truman manages the web sites of Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, The Capitol Woodwind Quintet and Bassoon.org.
