How to Build
and Publish a Web Page
Three
methods: two with Cox Web Server and one using tripod:
Method (1): To build a web page all you need is a word
processor
(MS Word or Wordperfect),
type in your content and click File,
Save As, HTML document. Then move file to a
web
server, if you use Cox Internet
you have 70-MB of web server space
(10-MB
for each e-mail address).
NOTE: Your home page must be index.html
Then
any web page linked to your home page can be named anything.html
Open a new
PC folder for each web page you develop, then all files in this folder
will
match the files on your web server.
Before you move your web page to a server you can open your web page
from Explorer
or Netscape: Click File, click Open, click browse to find
your saved HTML document, OK.
Log on Cox, manage personal web space http://support.cox.net/coxms/jsp/Login.jsp
Enter your
full cox e-mail address and password
Click
Personal WebSpace
Click Activate or Manage by your e-mail address
You are now logged in to your 10-MB of Personal WebSpace file manager
for your current e-mail
At the bottom of page click upload, then browse your PC for your Web
file, then click upload.
This will copy your web file from your PC to Cox Web server.
Done, your web page address is http://members.cox.net/emailname
Method(2): Using Netscape's 7.2 Composer
To download
freebie Netscape: http://home.netscape.com/
Upper left corner, Click browser
then Free
Download, standard install is OK, Java, media and weather not
needed.
From Netscape click Window,
then click Composer, this new window is your
HTML editor.
Other HTML
editors are MS Frontpage, Cold Fusion, Hot Metal and many others..
Composer
is similar to Word or Wordperfect, use Image then choose file to add a
picture.
To add a
link to another web page, highlight text, click Link, type in your web
linked
address. If linked web page is in your
folder, type FileName.html, if linked web page is
not in
your folder, type the absolute address, http://www............
To add
email link, highlight text, click Link, enter
mailto:YourEmailAddressHere
If you already have a web page, click File
then click open file.

Before you publish(copy) your web
page to a web server like Cox, you
must setup composer
to know where to upload your web file, only do this one time for each
web server (e-mail).
Note: your Cox Personal Web Space must be activated before you can
Publish, See Method (1)

With Composer you can publish many
different web pages to many
different servers,
Be careful to use the correct file name with the correct server.

Done, now your a Web Master, always
remember to do a "save as" so you
save your web file in
the correct PC folder, then publish to the correct
server.
Method (3) Use tripod, Under
development: Good luck
Also http://www.tripod.lycos.com/ is
