News from the November Tulsa Voice

Mystery Tour benefits Education and Legal Advocacy Funds.

Mystery Tour participants (l. to r.): front row—Gilcrease
Docent, Linda Brooks, Gabrille W. Jones, Gwen Hampton,
Linda Brooks’ guest Cynthia, Patty Lyons;
back row-Donna Mathews, JoAnne Bottomley, Rose
Unterschuetz.

The eight members and one guest who were able to go on the First Annual Mystery Tour were enthusiastic about the tour, and asked that it be made an annual event. So far, the Tour has netted $135 for the AAUW Education and Legal Advocacy Funds. Donations* are still being accepted, even though you couldn’t participate in the activity. Please mail your check to Treasurer Jenny Lizama, 1425 S Florence Ave, Tulsa, OK 74104. Thank you to all who have donated thus far!

*CORRECTION: There has been some confusion as to the type of non-profit AAUW-Tulsa Branch is. The Tulsa Branch is a 501(c)(4), and therefore, no payments made to the Tulsa Branch for fundraising nor local membership dues are deductible for tax purposes. A portion of national dues are deductible as previously stated. We apologize for any confusion.

AAUW-OK State Convention

You can mark your 2010 calendars for our State Convention April 9-10. The convention will be in Tahlequah, at the Holiday Inn Express. Tulsa Branch has been asked to handle the registration for the event.

Each Branch is also bringing a basket for a silent auction; our board decided our basket theme will be “Tulsa!”. So, if you would like to donate any new items that are made here, or are about Tulsa, please contact Linda Brooks. Branches have also been asked to bring an item for the “goodie bags’ presented to participants. Women in Transition have volunteered to provide the blue Women In Transition tote bags. Thank you, WIT!

Women in Transition

The Fall Follow Up session for WOMEN IN TRANSITION is scheduled for November 12. We’ll be at TCC-SE and are looking forward to connecting with past participants. The Follow Up is by invitation only. We advertise to all previous WIT participants and will host concurrent sessions in study skills/time management, career choices, financial aid, presenting yourself successfully and higher education alphabet soup. We will also have a session on surviving in these times of change.

Additionally women will have the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed, visit with area colleges and apply for a scholarship. If you’d like more information or want to help on the 12th, please contact me at csitzer@yahoo.com.

WIT Chair Candace Sitzer

As a side note…WIT welcomes Shirley Hays back as treasurer! We’re so glad she’s back with us!
