Leaves come in many shapes and colors. This page shows some different types of leaves.

Next time you see a plant, look carefully at the shape and color of its leaves.

Some leaves have jagged edges, while others have smooth edges. Leaves may be pointed or rounded. Leaves are not always green. Sometimes a leaf may have more than one color, or its edges may be a different color.

The leaves above and to the right are maple leaves, but they are from different kinds of maple trees.

This vine has heart-shaped leaves.

This is a type of grass.

Blades of grass are leaves.

Plants are often identified by their leaves. What makes this plant easy to identify?

These are water lily leaves. They are sometimes called lily pads.

Pine trees have leaves called needles.

This is a fern. A fern's leaves are called fronds.
