March 19, 2002:
Tunia arrived last week. She has been reading Caddie Woodlawn with us.March 20, 2002:
Tunia spent several lovely weeks here in the Arizona desert. The weather has been perfect for ladybugs. In fact last evening she attended a meeting at the Desert Botanical Garden that featured ladybugs and was presented with a lovely new carry case! She said that a picture of her great aunt Grace is featured on the front of her new red bag.Tunia, having the perfect personality and loving flowers as she does, felt right at home here in Arizona. This week the orange blossoms came into bloom, as well as many other desert flowers.
She made quite a few new friends, but has become quite taken with a hummingbird named Anna. They went together to visit the butterfly pavilion where there were over 500 butterflies!
Although our school is in the city we have many parks and are surrounded on all sides by tall mountains. Tunia did a little hiking, but she was just a little worried about the possibility of a black widow spider or a scorpion getting in her path. The class assured her that it was still a bit too cold for any of those critters to be out. After all, it was only 90 degrees today.
