March 3, 2004:
Tunia arrived today, and what a hot day it was! Although it is just the beginning of autumn here, Tunia must have thought it was the middle of summer as the temperature reached 40 degrees C here today. She was very pleased to meet everyone as she had been traveling for 12 days. She had a quick look around and tomorrow she will start investigating the school. Of course now that she’s back in Australia, she will need to have a school hat while she is outside so that she is sun safe.|

Tunia sat up on the school sign to have her photo taken. |

Tunia found an old tree stump to sit on. You can see she is in a bush land school. |
March 5, 2004:
Tunia went exploring - without her hat - and to her surprise she found a gecko (a small lizard) in the grass. After that, she was keen to look at the poster showing many of the birds she will see in the bush outside.|

March 8, 2004: Tunia went exploring in the playground today. She was pleased to have a new school hat just her size! She couldn’t wait to climb a tree with a red paint mark on it. That’s a tree the children are allowed to climb as well. |

Look at Tunia's new hat! |
Tunia sat on the bridge which runs between the two sandpits. She wished it was raining so she could watch the leaves washing down the tiny creek. That will happen in winter.

|
Can you see Tunia? |
Tunia does not see any sign of rain. |
Tunia had fun in the playground. She had a swing on the climbing ropes. Then she thought she was flying when she whizzed on the flying fox.

Then Tunia came upon something interesting. What could be inside? Tunia is wondering what lives in here. Maybe a possum! There are ring tail possums living in the school grounds. |

March 10, 2004: Tunia was excited about helping to clean up rubbish. She hopped up on top of one of the green wheelie bins with her rubbish collecting bag. |

Tunia went rubbish collecting along the railway line near the school. She was helping the children clean up the local environment as part of Clean Up Australia Day. |

Tunia found out a few things about her host school today. Eden Hills Primary School is a small community school nestled in the hills face of the Adelaide foothills. It first opened in 1916. Eden Hills is a suburb of Adelaide, the capital city of the state of South Australia. This year there are 7 classes with 180 students attending the school. It is a very happy friendly school as Tunia has found out.|

Kangaroo Island is Australia’s 3rd largest island and is situated at the bottom of South Australia. It has many National Parks, beautiful scenery, and lots of interesting animals. On Kangaroo Island, you are able to see sea lions, seals, kangaroos, koalas, echidnas, and goannas to mention a few. Tunia had an exciting day!!!!!|

Well Tunia’s visit has finally come to an end. But what a surprise Tunia had when she found out her last adventure with the Eden Hills children would be a visit to Westbourne Park Primary School. She was very excited as she visited this school in 2001 and 2002. She was even more excited when she found out she was going to Possum Magic’s 21st birthday party. She loves that story by Mem Fox.Have a good trip back home Tunia.
