James Hill School
Langley, British Columbia, Canada
May 12, 2003: Here at James Hill school in Langley, we are very happy and excited that Tunia has arrived for her visit with us. Because this is her fourth visit to our school, we know that she is feeling quite comfortable outside in the schoolyard checking out how big her special tree has grown since last year.
The first thing the Grade 2 students did to welcome Tunia, was to sing her tunes "If You Know a Bug Named Tunia" and "T-U-N-I-A". Tunia was all smiles! One of the children also read her very favourite book, The Grouchy Ladybug to her at silent reading time. We think she is feeling right at home. Watch out tasty aphids!

May 13, 2003:
Our Grade 2 class visited Critter Care Wildlife Society as part of our study of our community resources. The staff and volunteers at Critter Care take care of injured and orphaned wild "critters" that live in our community. Some of the animals they look after are beavers, squirrels, raccoons, skunks, opossums, and deer.|

June 6, 2003: Tunia left James Hill School in Langley on June 4th for the long flight home to Providence, Rhode Island. We were sad to see her go but we know that the children in Mrs. Cafferty's class are looking forward to having Tunia home again. We wish her a safe journey home.
One last exciting event in our classroom just after Tunia left was that one of the older students brought real ladybug eggs to our classroom. The very next day we had such a surprise when we got to school - the larvae had hatched! They were so hungry that they were eating their eggshells and when that was gone, the children took them out to a bush just covered with yummy aphids!
