James Hill Elementary School

Langley, BC, Canada

May 16, 2005: Tunia has arrived safe and sound at James Hill School! She seemed very happy to fly out of her bubble envelope and greet all the Grade 2 students. Today we read Tunia her very favourite story, The Grouchy Ladybug and sang her songs to her. She had a big smile on her face and I think we heard her giggle a little bit at the Grouchy Ladybug's
adventures. We will send photos to Tunia's website soon, so you can see what fun she is having visiting old friends and making new ones.

May 27, 2005: Tunia has been having a lovely time here at James Hill School, revisiting all her favourite places in the playground and in the school. She really loves the library and seems very interested in the insect books.

Tunia met a new friend, Zack the Rat, and here she is sharing her favourite book, The Grouchy Ladybug, with him.

One of our Grade 2 students made Tunia her own little bedroom to sleep in while she is visiting our classroom. You can see she is having a short nap after a busy day at school.

Last week some of the Primary students at James Hill School went to a nearby high school to watch two plays put on by the students. It was a rainy day so Tunia borrowed a raincoat for the trip. She is posing for her photo on the front of the bus we rode in to the high school.

June 6, 2005: Tunia has been outside a lot on the playground with the children because the weather has been sunny for the past week or so. We have sent some photos of her enjoying some of her favourite recess activities.

Tunia and her new friends are ready to enjoy the sunny weather on the playground.

Tunia is checking out a comfy seat in her favourite tree. She is keeping a close eye for aphids because the children had found bright yellow ladybug eggs on this tree a few weeks ago.

Tunia is enjoying a friendly game of soccer at recess. She has quite a kick!

The slide is also one of Tunia's favourite playtime choices. She feels like she is "flying high".

We took Tunia on a field trip to Critter Care in Langley. The volunteers at Critter Care look after wild animal babies that have been orphaned, and they care for injured animals as well. Some wild animals that live here in Langley and are cared for at this center are raccoons, opossums, deer, beavers, rabbits, flying squirrels, squirrels, skunks, baby black bears, and a bobcat named Hoover because she ate so fast when she was a baby.

Tunia poses with a picture of two orphaned baby raccoons who were raised at Critter Care until they could be released back into the wild.

Tunia snuggles up with a big stuffed raccoon before we start back to school from Critter Care.

June 28, 2005: Tunia left yesterday for her home in Providence, Rhode Island. We were sorry to say good-bye, but we know she is looking forward to spending a
relaxing summer in her lovely garden.

The students planted large jack-o-lantern pumpkin seeds in the classroom. Tunia is fascinated by how quickly the seeds germinated. Can you see the roots at the bottom of the glass and the seed covering still attached to the first pair of leaves? The students have taken their plants home now to plant outdoors for the summer.

Before Tunia left we had a going away party for her. Everything for the party was "ladybug coloured". Here Tunia is looking at all the delicious treats the children brought in.

Tunia is proudly gazing at a special cake in her honour, made by one of our creative parents.

Tunia has met a very large mysterious ladybug at her party. How many spots does this ladybug have?

Tunia enjoys a quiet moment snuggling with our class pet, a guinea pig, named Cocoa.

It was Cocoa's 2nd birthday last week and Tunia is all dressed for the occasion with a party hat and all!
