Winfield Elementary School

Westminster, Maryland

March 4, 2005: Tunia arrived safe and snug, and she is now happily getting settled in Mrs. Tighe's classroom.  The students have had Maryland State Testing this week, after being off several snow days, so next week they plan to truly welcome Tunia.

Tunia looks around as she gets settled in with her new friends.

March 11, 2005: Tunia loves to read and write, but she also loves math. Today she had fun watching her new friends do their math.

Tunia is having a great time during math.

March 29, 2005: Tunia is having a great time with all her friends at Winfield Elementary School. She worked with students in Mrs. Tighe’s class and went to special classes with them. Together they learned a lot about taking and saving digital pictures. Ms. Callis and Mrs. Tighe showed the students many things about digital photos, and, of course, they sent them to Tunia’s website to share them with all of Tunia’s friends.

Tunia and her friends visited The Francis Scott Key Memorial in Frederick, MD. It is where Francis Scott Key is buried. He is the person who wrote “The Star Spangled Banner”, the national anthem of the United States of America.

This is the Francis Scott Key Memorial.

Here Tunia sits on the plaque at the Francis Scott Key Memorial.

Tunia found a book that she thought was very special.

Tunia not only made friends with the students in Mrs. Tighe’s class, but also with some famous characters! Do you know them?

Mrs. Tighe’s second graders worked hard on their Native American projects.

Now it’s time for Tunia to travel to her next school. She will miss her friends at Winfield Elementary School, but who knows? She just may be back again sometime. Happy traveling, Tunia!
