Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan

November 12, 2002: Tunia is here and we are thrilled! We have had snow, and Tunia is enjoying herself.

December 2, 2002: We are really enjoying Tunia's visit. When she arrived, she looked very healthy after her long trip. She was enjoying the snowless November with the class on our playground. Below are some fun pictures taken before Thanksgiving. Tunia has come with us to computer lab, library, music class, and gym. She has fun with all the projects in art class.

Shortly we will visit the Sault locks and see the last minute ships passing through. They all try and make the last trip before the river and big Lake Superior begin to freeze. The ships have to be very careful of the bad storms that took the Edmund Fitzgerald in November of 1975. It was not quite so stormy this year, but you can never tell.

December 13, 2002: We have really enjoyed Tunia's visit with us. She has enjoyed the new snowfall. It is more than we usually have this early. Does that mean lots of snow later this year? Tunia has watched us practice for our Christmas Program next week. Tunia is on her way back to Providence so that she will be home for the holidays. Have a wonderful Christmas! It was great having Tunia with us. We'll miss her.

Tunia loves reading, especially with a friend!

Tunia helps her friends build. Can you tell what they made?

Tunia spent some time with the Pilgrims and turkeys.

Here is the bell from the Edmund Fitzgerald, being kept at the Whitefish Point Museum at Whitefish Point in the Upper Peninsula. It is a lighthouse at the tip of the opening into Lake Superior from Whitefish Point. Sailors must get to this spot to be safe in bad weather. On the anniversary of the sinking, there was a program to remember, with the ringing of the bell for each sailor lost.
