Donaldson Elementary School

Oakdale, Pennsylvania

April 4, 2005: Tunia arrived at Donaldson Elementary School today. Many of the students had already gone home, so they will meet her when they come back to school tomorrow.

Tunia went with us to the computer lab and watched us use the computers. We made some spring pictures for another project, Beautiful Spring, Beautiful Earth (http://www.lakelandschools.org/EDTECH/spring-project2005/home.htm ).

Tunia had fun helping us plant our seeds in science on Wednesday. We each planted a kidney bean seed, a pea seed, a pumpkin seed, and a sunflower seed. We will observe them everyday and record our observations in our science notebooks.

April 11, 2005:

This is another busy week in first grade. Our seeds have sprouted and are growing into healthy seedlings. We get to take them home on Thursday. Parents are coming to school on Friday for Parent Teacher conferences. We each made a life cycle headband showing how a seed grows into a plant. We even made one for Tunia since she likes plants so much!

This week at the computer lab we used MS Paint to make our own ladybugs. Next, our teacher showed us how we can add our pictures to our stories. We will write our stories next week. Tunia liked the many different kinds of ladybugs that we made.

April 18, 2005:

This week has been another busy one. We read nonfiction stories about bears in our reading book and Make Way for Ducklings as part of another Internet project. Many stuffed bears and ducks came to school this week.

On Friday we had an assembly for Earth Day called Professor Culpepper’s Amazing Garden.

We made our terrariums and aquariums this week. We will add pill bugs and bess beetles to our terrariums soon and guppies and snails to our aquariums.

April 25, 2005:

This is the last week that Tunia will be visiting us. We have really enjoyed the visit. She is packing up right now to go to Canada. She is excited about her long airplane trip. Goodbye Tunia! We’ll be watching for your reports from your next school. Have a nice summer and come back soon.
