Summer, 2003
: Tunia spent the summer in her garden. She had traveled so much in the last few years that spending time at home for awhile seemed like a good plan. Tunia checked on flora and fauna in her garden. That means she checked on the plants and animals in her garden. Look at the photos below to get an idea of some of what Tunia saw.|

This dragonfly is called a 12-spotted skimmer. |

Tunia is looking at some lantana. Seeds develop beneath each bloom. Once the flower falls off, the seeds are easy to see. |

In the picture on the left, Tunia is looking at the flowers on a manettia. The plant is in a pot in Tunia's garden so that it may be brought inside when the weather gets cold. It is not native to Rhode Island and must be kept warm through the winter or it will die. In the closeup above, can you see why this plant is also called the candy corn vine? Have you seen candy that looks like this? |

This eastern gray squirrel is looking for seeds that have fallen to the ground under the bird feeder. |
A praying mantis visited Tunia's garden. It helps plants by eating insects that harm plants. Would this praying mantis eat ladybugs? |

If you have been folowing Tunia's travels for a couple of years, you already know about Koi and Koi-Koi who live in the pond in Tunia's garden. |
Tunia is checking to see if the flowers and bracts on the bougainvillea have a fragrance. |

The holly has berries. That happens in late summer in Tunia's garden. The season is almost over. |
The name of this plant - Autumn Joy Sedum - has made it clear that fall has arrived and Tunia will be leaving soon on her new journey. |

Tunia is all packed and ready to leave on her journey. Traveling and even getting ready to travel can be tiring. A cup of ladybug tea is just what Tunia needs! |
