: Tunia visited the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam during her summer vacation. It was an exciting trip with beautiful views of the Grand Canyon and the amazing Hoover Dam. Though these photos were taken on the ground, the space shuttle astronauts have taken photos in the past of both the Grand Canyon and the Hoover Dam from outer space. Can you imagine they are visible from so far away?|

Tunia also visited the Hoover Dam on the Nevada-Arizona border. Construction for this dam began in 1931 and finished in 1935. Its power plant was finished in 1936, and its first generator began running that year. Finally in 1961, the 17th and last generator began running. The reservoir for Hoover Dam is called Lake Mead. |

Tunia made some interesting friends along the way. Outside a shop near the Grand Canyon, she met a cowboy. Then she met a famous polar bear at the Coca-Cola Factory in Las Vegas, Nevada. Tunia had quite a vacation!
