Laura
and Tom Miller at our wedding dinner, 02/22/97,
in Carefree, AZ.
(Laura's
the cute one)
Laura is a medical claims
adjuster for Progressive Insurance Company.
She is talented in art, humor, writing and
music. We met at a jazz concert at the
Boarding House in Cleveland. Her late
father, Lou Darvas was a sports cartoonist for
the Cleveland Press for many years.
OK, the name
"tvtom" was hung on me many years ago
when I was working for the NBC owned TV
station in Cleveland. My friends just
started referring to me as "tvtom"
instead of "Tom". I started
using "tvtom" as a logon name on the
Internet, and it stuck. I haved worked for
affilliates of all four major networks over
my 35 years in television. I was employed
by NBC for 22 years as a Technical Manager.
I worked for CBS-5 KPHO-TV here in Phoenix until
my retirement in March 2002..
I play organ, sing Sinatra
style Karaoke (a Japanese word for tone-deaf),
dabble in astronomy, photography, genealogy, and
computers. I started in broadcast
television in 1965 with WTPA-TV in Harrisburg, PA
after serving two years with the military on
civilian status at Camp David as part of the
White House Communications Agency. John F.
Kennedy was President when I started there in
1963. I joined WKYC-TV in Cleveland in
December of 1966 and stayed until November of
1988 when I took the Job of Chief Engineer with
WJW-TV in Cleveland. I came to Phoenix in
1996 and have been working at KPHO-TV 5 since
then, and retired in March of 2002.
My children are all grown and
moved away from Ohio.
My oldest son, Craig, lived here in Phoenix until the summer
of 2002 when he transferred to San Diego (lives
in Poway, CA). He has two daughters. He is
a marketing engineer with Intel and received his
M.B.A. degree from A.S.U. in the spring of 2000.
My next oldest is Gary. He is a Civil Engineer for
Columbia Gas Co. and lives in York, PA . He is a
very good photographer and golfer.
My daughter Carole is married and lives in Ocoee,
FL. She also has two daughters. She
is a Certified Microsoft Systems Engineer. She is
a systems administrator for the local school
district.
