In a long-term project an aircraft is to be developed which can land and take-off without special runways. In the first phase of this project a new concept of tailless glider is being investigated. It is based on the bird layout for aerodynamic stability and uses a control method as used by birds.      An extensive theoretical investigation has revealed an efficiency benefit achievable by implementing the birds control method. Above all, the first full-scale prototype has demonstrated, in flight tests, that the concept works very well and indeed holds great potential.

SG-1 - Concepts - To develop a lighter sailplane with good climb in weak conditions, low momentum in an outlanding but still with good interthermal performance at speed.       To achieve this, a short pitch couple reduces the wetted area and weight, the swept fin with no boom being an inherently efficient structure.The wing is small, which affects the constraints on optimisation of lift distribution and allows reduced adverse yaw.      SG-1 is similar looking to Genesis but is based on quite different aero'. The Genesis wing is stabilising with a small positive foil CMc/4. In SG-1 all the static pitch stability is created by the tail and the wing foils are about CMc/4=-0.06 which enables the wide drag bucket required.

This is the untold saga of the first British supersonic aircraft. Three tailless experimental DH.108 aircraft were built. First flight was in May 1946. The Choucas (French for "jackdaw") is a two-place side-by-side touring motorglider with front-mounted engine. Its outstanding characteristics allow it to excel among other European- designed machines. The side-by-side seating and the swept forward wing provide for unsurpassed visibility, and the flight controls of the Choucas are a delight to both experienced pilots and novices. The aircraft  may be flown from either seat, and all the controls are well-harmonized in both soaring and powered phases of flight.

This is the culmination of over 30 years of aerodynamic and composite study and experimentation on my part.  The Atlantica is a relatively recent development for me with it's roots starting at Sun N' Fun 97'.  In 1998, I met Austin Meyer, a young aeronautical and computer whiz who had developed an intriguing software package using Open GL in order to provide extremely realistic simulations. The program, X-plane is based on blade element analysis and calculates moments to a high resolution in real time (at least 15 times per second).

Zing Wings are high performance flying wing toy gliders that look much like hang gliders.  They are hinged at the center so they can fold in half. On each side of the hinge fold is a plastic hook. A launching rubber band is slipped under one of the hooks to launch the glider in the folded "launch" position. Launch altitudes of over 100 feet can be attained. A small rubberband between the hooks pulls the wing "open" into the flying position when its launch speed slows sufficiently. With the wings in the flying position, the glider starts its flight which lasts 30 seconds to several minutes.

CompuFoil Professional is the industry standard in airfoil modifica- tion and plotting software.  Used by SIG, Midwest Models, Great Planes Models, R&R Products, CR Aircraft, DJAeroTech, NASA, and discriminating modelers around the world. CompuFoil runs on Windows 3.1, 3.11, 95, 98. Sling Wing is a "flying wing" or "tail-less monoplane". This glider can be "tuned" or "trimmed" to produce the best possible flight characteristics for the weather conditions you fly in. When flying in windy conditions, you may find that Sling Wing performs better when it is adjusted, or "tuned" to fly a bit faster than when flying in calm or near-calm air.

Tailless Tale by Dr. Ing. Ferdinando Galè Tailless Tale may be the first published book dealing specifically with tailless model aircraft.  Tailless Tale is directed toward modelers, whether they are interested in RC, free flight, or control line flying. The folks at Bright Star (designers of the Swift and Millennium) put a control bar on a Millennium for us to evaluate. It is weight shift controlled in pitch, and  aerodynamically controlled in roll and yaw, activated through pilot pressure on the control bar.       To the pilot the aerodynamic controls are "transparent," i.e. you fly it like a flex wing. If it turns out that the project is feasible aerodynamically, structurally, and financially we may choose to produce and sell a control bar configuration of the Millennium.  We (WillsWing)  have been making the sails for the Millennium since it's inception and have enjoyed our association with Bright Star.

The SWIFT (Swept Wing with Inboard Flap Trim) is the result of more than six years of research lead in co-operation with the Stanford University in the USA.  The SWIFT is a rigid wing, built with high technology composite materials and techniques.  This allows both the robustness and the lightness required for a foot-launchable sailplane.  The sailplane is pitch stable and keeps perfectly a given course. Because roll and yaw are automatically co-ordinated, the SWIFT stands easily and firmly in turning.

U.S. Pacific was founded in 1987 by world-famed aeronautical engineer/designer Don Mitchell and Richard Avalon, the current owner of the company. Don and Richard worked together at Mitchell Aircraft Corporation from 1978 through 1983.
