Ben SeibelA late contemporary of Russel Wright, Ben Seibel (sy-BELL) also designed for the Steubenville Pottery and Iroquois China companies. After his successful "Contempora" dinnerware line for Steubenville, Seibel created a line for Raymor which was produced by the Roseville Pottery Company. Called Raymor Modern Stoneware, this oven-to-table dinnerware was introduced in 1952. For Iroquois, Seibel designed several lines: "Impromptu" (1956), "Informal" (1958), "Inheritance" (1959), and finally, "Intaglio" (1964). Thereafter, he designed an ovenproof stoneware line for Haeger Pottery (1971) and produced extensive work with Mikasa that is still being brought to light.Other designs in pottery and metal are yet to be well-documented in print: a series of Jenfred-ware bookends, and a dinnerware line designed for Forum International, Japan. Obviously he did some work for Kasuga, since we have found these items, but have no documentation regarding them yet. |
