Theme Formal by Russel Wright

Theme Formal Soup Bowl The Theme Formal Mark

Theme formal soup bowls, and the Yamato Theme Formal mark.
Here is an example of some of Wright's rarest work, from 1965. Reportedly produced only in test quantities by Yamato in Japan, Theme Formal is subtle, subdued, and only suggests the broader "biomorphic" shapes of Wright's earlier work. However, Theme Formal is an opportunity to observe what Wright could do in the one instance in which he was able to design for a true line of porcelain china, unrestrained by the grosser body forms required by his previous American dinnerware manufacturers.
