Julia C. Usher Murray
September 4, 1965 - 

Julia was born at the base hospital on Homestead AFB, Homestead, FL., on 4 September 1965. She was the second child born to Howard Cooke Usher, Jr. and Sandra Lea Nelson. Her brother, Richard, had been born on 14 September 1962. Her father was a captain in the United States Air Force assigned to the base as a KC-135A Tanker Navigator at the time. The family lived in a home they had bought at 8975 S, W. 199th. Street, Miami, 57 FL.
On 30 June 1967 her father was transferred to Bayshore Radar Bomb Site in Michigan. The family lived for a short time in Charlevoix, MI, and then moved into a rented home at 413 Pearl Street, Petoskey, MI. During the two years here, her father was assigned to two six month temporary tours in Vietnam. Julia's brother, William, was born in Petoskey on 25 June 1969. On 31 July 1969 her father was transferred to Plattsburgh AFB, Plattsburgh, NY. While waiting for base housing, Julia, Richard, William and their mother stayed for a short time at their grandparent's (Howard and Clara Usher) summer cottage at Short Beach, CT. Then the family moved into base housing, first at 217B New Jersey Street and later to 184C U. S. Oval.

Julia's parents were divorced in September of 1974. Her mother remarried and Julia, Richard, and William lived with their mother and her new husband, Michael F. Schmidt, and remained at Plattsburgh AFB. The family was transferred to Barksdale AFB, Shreveport, LA on________1976. They lived first in Parkland Villa Apartments while their new home was being built. Then on _______1977 the family moved to 611 Pine Cone Drive, in Tall Timbers, Haughton, LA. Next, the family was transferred to Offutt AFB, Omaha, NE on _______1980. They lived at 2811 Century Road, Omaha, NE. Julia graduated from Bellevue West High School, Bellevue, NE on 28 May 1983. On ________1984 the family was again assigned to Barksdale AFB. Julia and the family lived on base at 107 Avenue C West.

Julia worked for the YMCA first in Bossier City, LA and then later for the YMCA in downtown Shreveport. She attended The University of Louisiana at Shreveport while she worked at the YMCA. When Michael F. Schmidt retired from the USAF and he and Julia's mother moved to Huntsville, AL, Julia remained in Shreveport and on 18 December 1991 she graduated from The University of Louisiana at Shreveport with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management and Administration.
Julia married Jon David Murray on 3 July 1993. The wedding was held at the Kings Highway Christian Church in Shreveport and the reception at the University Club in downtown Shreveport. Julia and Jon moved into a new home that they bought at 3246 Judy Lane, Shreveport, A. Their daughter, Madison Nicole, was born on 24 September 1995.
