VBCOPE: Virginia Beach Coalition
of Public Employees

In October 2001, the coalition of organized professional labor associations
joined together to support all city employees and school system employees
of Virginia Beach with the goal of obtaining better wages, benefits and
an employee voice in the workplace. The charter organizations consisting
of The Virginia Beach Education Association
(VBEA), Virginia Beach Police Benevolent Association (PBA), Virginia Beach
Police Supervisors Association (PSA) and the Virginia Beach Professional
Fire Fighters (VBPFF) have joined forces
to ensure the voices of ALL employees are heard in our City Council and
School Board chambers. Recently, many individual city and school
system employees have joined our organization in support of our cause.
Our school system and city are "World Class" in every way except employee compensation. The employees are an asset to the community and make the difference in the communities' success. We recommend that ALL employees become a PRIORITY in the coming year. We are working to become the voice for all the employees. Recently, we started our new effort in support of the 2003/2004 budget process. We have been working together for the benefits of ALL SCHOOL SYSTEM & CITY EMPLOYEES. Our

Following our success in the May 2002 elections, our coalition began distributing Virginia Voter registration forms to members, their families, associates, friends and neighbors in the community. We are actively encouraging ALL city and school system employees to support our organization in preparation of the non-partisan May 2004 local elections. Our goal is to register all members of the community who share the same PRIORITIES as those of our school and city employees. By unifying the voice of the community and working together as a block, the organization's influence and presence in the city will directly impact the direction of the community for years to come. The
