Vegas Hold'em
There are only 5 basic starting hands
in the card game Texas hold'em:
connectors, pairs,
suited, connected-suited, gapped-offsuits(rags). All 5 starting
hands have specific mathematical quirks which make them profitable in
specific situations.
Playing poker is very much like playing the stock market:
a price must be paid to see the flop, turn & rivercard
Bull Market - loose/passive table is where all the action is!!!
We all probably realize that it is best to invest in a bullish market.
The best time to limp in with draws in late
position is in a loose/passive game. With so many callers,
investing on draws like 78offsuit & A9samesuited will be quite profitable in
the long run.
Bear Market
- tight-passive table...not much action or money to be made.
As in the Stock Market, a bull market can quickly change into a bear market
! An ideal loose-passive table can suddenly change into a
tight-passive table as players come&go like the tides. You as a
skilled-poker player will have to be prepared & know how to quickly adjust
accordingly. Draws like 78offsuit is unprofitable at this type of "bearish
table""...so you'll have to tighten up & be play more aggressively at the same
time! Draws like 78 or A8double-suited will not give you the correct price
to call!
The price of starting cards
- over the long haul, certain starting cards win more
$$$ than other starting cards dependant on the Table Texture.
Lets say you're dealt a JT offsuit for example:
-it's 7 to 1 against flopping a 4 straight draw. So...every time your dealt connectors---there must be at least
6 or more
callers limping in to see the flop! That's why it's better to limp
in late position for as cheaply as possible & fold to any raises/re-raises! That
is why it's wrong to play connectors in early position because: someone
right after you might raise; which in turn will make other people
fold...ultimately giving you the wrong mathematical odds to make a
profitable call!
Let's just assume you're dealt AQ offsuit in early
position instead! What do you do?
Well since you have so many outs...this
hand is much more profitable&stronger against less players in the pot!
Mathematically, it's merely 3 to 1 against you improving...so by
betting/re-raising you can limit the field or maybe even steal the
blinds! If you hold strong holecards-you should make every attempt to win the pot
outright...and make other players pay to outdraw you! Always bet
for value; no need for fancy plays!
REMEMBER THE 3 BASIC LAWS OF VEGAS HOLD'EM:
table texture & flop texture both dictate correct pot odds to call.
1)Table Selection
- always comes first ! Always invest your time &
money in a
bullish market.
2)Starting-Hands - invest your chips in strong holecards;
it's really that simple!
3)Pot Odds & Position
-
invest in starting hands only when the price is right - never overpay!
Draws are profitable on a loose table with several limpers. Pot Odds
will always guide you on how to play your starting hands
profitably.
