VISION

CATHOLIC SINGLES ORGANIZATION

OF WICHITA

Welcome to the VISION home on the internet. If you have dropped in, perhaps you are single or you know someone who is. As a single Catholic adult, you know how difficult it is to determine where your place is in the Catholic Church. This site may help you decide. It has been designed to give you a brief overview on what VISION is all about. Please take your time and check out our organization. Feel free to join if you like what you see or perhaps a trial membership might be right if you still are not sure. Whatever the case, we hope to see you soon.

VISION PRAYER

Dear Lord

We gather together in your name.

Although we are very different people,

we are one in our faith.

We are Catholic adults with a singular vision

to glorify Your name through our thoughts

And our actions, and provide a light for others to see.

We know not our destination on earth,

but we have faith that You will provide our path.

Guide us in Your mercy.

Amen.

What is VISION?

VISION is a unique organization for single Catholics in the Wichita area that was founded in August of 1993. Our mission is to help each other develop spiritually, socially, and intellectually, within the Catholic community. Our organization consists of single Catholics living around the Wichita area. Friendship is the basis of our VISION. Our hope is that, through VISION, you will be able to develop friendships that will be valuable to you. We are here to socialize, grow spiritually, and be an important part of your life.

Who is VISION?

You are! VISION is run by its members. A board of directors, consisting of officers and committee directors is elected each year. Also, a priest is regularly appointed by the Bishop to serve as moderator. The board's term runs from January 1 to December 31. The real direction of our organization however, is developed through YOUR input. Each month's activities are planned during the preceding month by the members of the group. Members realize that other singles might enjoy doing the things they enjoy doing. This works by having one member agree to host an event – such as a dinner and movie night or a lunch and nature outing. Then, the member has the event listed in the monthly newsletter. Other members see the event in the newsletter and choose whether to attend the event or not.

What Should I Expect Out of VISION?

VISION is not a dating club! There are no dating lists, no questioners, and obviously, no guarantees. There are no mandatory rules for volunteering or participating. However, if your goal is to make new friends, you will get the most out of your VISION membership by attending a variety of activities, and helping to plan these activities.

Meetings

Our monthly meeting is usually held during the second week of each month. This is a time for all VISION members to gather, take care of official business, and enjoy fellowship afterwards. This meeting helps to give our organization identity and unity. We encourage you to be a part of planning VISION events. It's fun and it's a great way to meet new people! Please attend as regularly as possible.  Please check your newsletter or the calendar link on this website for or locations, times, and dates of all meetings.

Why Should I Join VISION?

To Make New Friends

Whether you are new to the area or you've lived here all of your life, there is no better environment to get acquainted with new people! Our common gift of the Catholic faith serves as an ideal bond for new friendships.  Our commitment to you is to be friendly, courteous, and not judgmental as you join our group. We are highly aware that you are stepping into an awkward position.  You are the "new kid on the block" and nobody knows you yet.  But be not afraid.  We're here to help.  At many of our activities, we make a regular practice of going around and introducing everyone's names before a VISION activity begins.

To Explore Vocational Opportunities

At this point in your life, you may still be asking yourself questions like: "Where am I going?" or "What does God want me to do with my life?"  Being a member of VISION does not provide insight to these questions.  Being a member however, does provide opportunities to develop your faith through participating in social, spiritual, and community activities.  And in time, through prayer, you will come to know whether you are being called to the religious life, the single life, or the married life.

What Kinds of Things Does VISION Do?

VISION Committees

Spiritual

Spiritual programs work routinely in a manner that fosters love, fellowship, and spiritual growth.  Since VISION's beginning, prayer has guided the group to: Establish a special group Mass attendance once-a-month, attend Lenten services together, engage in peaceful abortion protests, start Bible studies, participate in religious programs sponsored by the Diocese of Wichita's Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry, start a prayer line program, and begin an Adult Education Series about a variety of inquiry topics.

Community

VISION's involvement in community projects has been through volunteer support of time, labor, and donations to the following: The Lord’s Diner, St. Anthony Family Shelter, the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Bowling Fund Drive, the Multiple Sclerosis Fund Drive, Operation Immunize Project, the Catholic "Service Day" of Wichita, the Wichita Children's Home, the Catholic Care Center, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. Financial support has gone out to the St. Anthony Family Shelter House, the Pro-Life movement and Catholic Emergency Services.

Social

There's really not enough room here to mention all of the activities the VISION has sponsored throughout its short history. We will say that VISION's activities are limited only by your imagination VISION...dances, volleyball, softball, barbecues, sporting events of every kind, vacations, parties, camping, walking, dining out, concerts, River Festival events, and much, much, more.  Just imagine the many opportunities to make new friends. The possibilities are endless.

Publicity

Want to spread the word about VISION? Then this is just the committee for you. There are a variety of ways to promote our organization. Come check it out. Members of this committee share our VISION with the Catholic community
