She
attended Old Dominion University, Norfolk VA,
The Fashion Institute,
in Atlanta and Tidewater
Community College. While raising two sons,
she continued working as a
freelance fashion illustrator.
It was during this time that she pursued
her passion to
paint in watercolor
and began exhibiting her work.
Currently, she maintains a studio
at the d'Art Center in downtown Norfolk.
Throughout the year, she and her
husband and business partner, Tom,
travel the eastern part of the United
States, exhibiting Vonnie's artwork
in juried outdoor art shows.
The themes of Vonnie's artwork . . . still life,
figurative, street scenes
and
room interiors are influenced by summers spent at the family beach house,
treasured objects collected during her lifetime, and the imprint of her
European
heritage. She also paints with a group of artist friends,
each Friday morning.
The group has met consistently for eighteen years,
working with a live model
and often exhibiting as a group.
Vonnie Whitworth's watercolor paintings are included in many private
and
corporate collections. She has exhibited in the American Watercolor Society
in
New York City and is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society.
She has found great satisfaction in using her artwork to raise funds
for
organizations including The Ronald McDonald House,
The Oklahoma City Memorial
and most recently,
The Nine Eleven Victims' Relief Fund.
