The FPVP previously located near the buffet have been moved to near the Oasis Bar and Roxy's The amount of coin-in required to earn a point on decent games has increased frequently and dramatically at AZ Charlie's Decatur (and probably at AZ Charlie's Boulder and Stratosphere) in the last couple of years. It's a "don't ask, won't tell" situation that doesn't sit well with me. We no longer investigate the changes or play there. Strat. has just installed some new machines. 2 clusters of 4 MG/MG slant-tops located in the far right corner(as you face the strip) along Las Vegas Blvd wall. $.25, .50 and $1 denom. 10/7 DB, 10/6 DDB, 15/8 loose deuces. The old coin droppers are still in play as of July 3, but I don't think they will last. The (7) $1 9/5 White Hot Aces are MIA. Stratosphere has 25c 9/5 Triple Bonus Poker at the Sportsbook bar. Last time I stayed at strat we requested the other tower and got it for the same price. It's older (and we didn't have a strip view ) but the big advantage is the time share leaches weren't there. I'm talking the tower in the main casino instead of the one by the buffet. I've stayed there twice once in the new tower and once in the old tower both times we didn't have any problems. I'm not as fond of there comp system because the host doesn't have any say. You either have the points in the computer or you don't. However comps are easier to earn than most places on the strip. Overall, I'd rather stay downtown or at a swankier place south strip because I like to have more stuff to do within (safe) walking distance. My wife and I stayed at the Strat last week-Sun.-Weds. I booked the rooms through TravelAxe at around $29.00 per night. Upon check in we were informed of a $3.00 "energy charge". I asked for a Strip View and they added $10.00 per night. For the price, I felt the room was fine and very quite. The area is somewhat remote and not easy walking distance to anything good. The CAT bus stops out front , so you can take it up the strip or downntown. The strip bus cost is $2.00 per person one way. Over 65 is less, but you must show a CAT I.D. The Strat is a lively place and everyone was friendly except for a coffee bar lady(older, dyed red hair, butch cut) who barked loudly at me for trying to warm up my coffee. They charge 80 cents for refills. The only real negative is the Time Share leeches that attack everyone that walks by their booth. Over all we liked the Strat. Now that we know our way around, I am sure we will go back. I am looking for to see if they send future offers. The room was standard fare vegas. Nice but nothing out of the ordinary. One interesting item, you have your choice of what they call the world tower or the premier tower. There is approx. a $10- $15 a night difference in price. When I asked what the difference with the rooms were, I was told nothing other than the world tower is about 4 years older. They also offer an extra discount for AARP members, (which, sad to say, I qualified for a few months ago). For the price, the buffet I thought was very good. I only sampled breakfast but I thought that they had a better than average variety of foods compared to most of the other vegas buffets that I've tried at this price range. Discount coupons are also available on the Stratosphere web site. The is a sit down restaurant called Lucky's Cafe. Very good food. We booked dinner reservations at the restaurant at the top of the tower called the Top of the World. It is at the 106th floor and rotates one complete turn every hour. The view is spectacular. There is a dress code and the prices the prices match the height. Plan on well over $100 for dinner for two but the food is excellent!!! I thought that the pool and spa area was very nice. Well kept and clean. They have a variety of play activities in the pool: water basketball and volleyball. The only drawback was that the spa was a bit small. One of the nice casino benefits is their refund for first time club players. After you sign up for their card, they will refund 15% of what you play for the first half hour up to a $100 refund. Any slot or video poker machine qualify. They have a well marked section on 100%+ video but you have to be careful which you sit down at. I played double bonus. There were only 2 10/7 machines mixed in with 9/7 machines in their 100% area. The catch with the refund is that you don't receive it right away, it gets mailed several weeks after you play and you have 1 year to redeem. Not that it is going to be a problem, all in all, I was quite happy with the stay and plan on putting it on my hotels to visit much more frequently. Room comp requires about $8000 coin-in per day, COMPS are minimal. Best to CASH out upon leaving. Separate comp account accrues at a S-L-O-W rate, and varies by the machine you play. If you only play the 100% vp's, don't expect much towards food. However, enough play (say 2-3K/day) will generate future room offers. They usually only assign a host to players earning 667 points/day or more (that's putting through $13,340/day on positive machines, half that on negative vp and half of that for slots). My wife and I visit the Strat about six times a year and pretty much stay put there due to the good .25 VP. We play 10/6 JOB (100.70%) and 8/5 super bonus (100.22%) which pays the bonus on 4 of a kind for 2s-8s instead of the normal 2s-4s. The Cashback on FPVP is only .1 but we get good treatment from the staff and have made a lot of friends there. My wife and I play a combined ~$10K/day and get full RFB. They have a new wing of rooms along with a new outdoor pool deck and several new restaurants. The standard rooms are clean but kind of small (especially in the new wing). We usually get a players suite which is a little larger room with a separate sitting area. The only notable dining is at the Top of The World revolving restaurant which is pricey for dinner but very good with a spectacular view at night. This is also a very good place to have lunch for a reasonable price with a great view. Don't know about any codes for room discounts since we get free room offers inviting us back about every two weeks; and I have been told by the staff that we will be comped whenever we want to show up. For example, I recently made reservations to come back during Comdex week and was told "no problem, you are fully comped". I think its a good place to establish yourself. The downside is that the location is not within walking distance to other casinos on the strip and they don't have FPDW (if that is your game). The Stratosphere offers a Guaranteed Refund—Win or Lose promotion for out-of-state, first-time slot club members. Play the machines of your choice for a minimum of 30 minutes within the first 24 hours of signing up for the new card and get 15 percent of your total coin-in (for the initial first half-hour of play) up to $100, regardless of whether you won or lost during that time frame. You will receive a cash voucher in the mail after you get home. You must return to the Stratosphere to redeem it on your next Vegas trip. Check with the Player’s Club booth for current information on how long you have to get your cash. It’s usually three to nine months for this type of promotion, but some have been known to extend the voucher dates for up to a year. For more information about the Stratosphere’s rebate promotion, call 1-800-WIN-7771. I’ve also heard reports that nice room offers are being mailed afterwards to all those who participate. |
