(8) 25c FPDW MG/MD Optimum uprights between Bingo and the Rewards Center. (11) 25c/50c/$1 MG/MD Optimum uprights in the old Tournament Area between Fat Burger and the Sportsbook. This reduces the number of Optimum machines at Sunset from 25 to 14. The 10/7 DB uprights reported in JUN 2007 and the OEJ Optimums reported in JUL 2007 are the same machines. There is a bank of 6 MG/MD machines along the wall opposite of Hooter's. They are 5c/10c/25c MG/MD machines but are full pay only at the 25c level. They also have FPDW and 10/6 DB at the quarter level. IMHO these machines are not very comfortable to play as the platform they sit on is a bit too high, causing many people to have to reach slightly up to play them. The old slot tournament area between Fat Burger and the Sportsbook has been turned into a parlor for the new IGT Guaranteed Video Poker uprights. These can be played in the "guaranteed" mode or regular play. I did a quick check of the paytables and didn't see any over 100% games. 25c OEJ (100.3% version) are reported on Optimums near Hooter's. A couple of changes of note: Host Rebecca Messing has apparently left Sunset. I have no idea where she went. My new host is Burma, who was kind enough to leave a gift basket in my room... The hotel's policy on deposit for incidentals has changed, at least for those who prefer to pay this in cash upon check-in. The new cash deposit requirement is a whopping $100 per day, as opposed to the $50 per stay requirement in the past. In the past, I have prefered to do this rather than offer up my credit card. I'm told the amount blocked for a credit-card deposit will continue to be $50. (6) $1 10/7 DB uprights that were located near the old keno area have been downgraded to 5c/10c/25c and moved across from the poker room. FP for DB and DDB at 25c only. (11) 25c/50c/$1 MG/MD Optimum uprights are now located in the old Slot Tournament area between Fat Burger and the Sportsbook. The (8) Optimum uprights that were located near the poker room are MIA. It looks like (6) of these were relocated to the old Slot Tournament area, along with (5) of Optimum uprights that were reported as missing in MAR 2007. The net result is (4) less Optimum uprights. (7) 25c/50c/$1 MG/MD Optimum uprights in a new "non smoking" area along a wall between the Italian Restaurant and the high-limit room. Keno has been moved into this area. Sunset and host Lucie Marina are 2 of our favorite names in Las Vegas ... We play around $10,000 a day and for that we get room, welcome basket, and $75 a day food credit. I like the way they do the food credit...you can save it all for a big splurge or you can use your $75 a day for the coffee shop, buffet or whatever you wish. Last trip we stayed 3 days so we had $225 to use and we went to Costa del Sol and Sonoma Cellar once each, and that took care of it!! Lucie is a great host. We never asked her for a food allowance; she just gave it to us. We have stayed there 2 or 3 days on each of our last 4 trips. They all were on marketing offers. Last month I contacted a host and asked for and received an extra day on the marketing offer. When we arrived there was a basket (wine, cheese, fruit, etc.). We have been playing about 5k points per day combined play. Our coin-in is almost double that because most of our play is on >100% machines. We get about 2 room offers per month and a tournament offer every month or two. I asked if we could get 6 days next trip. She said yes if we combine our stay with a tournament offer. |

Qualify for a Free Play level by logging the required number of base points for that level, in the 90 day period that ends one month before the monthly mailing. For example, the qualifying period for the May mailing is the three month period ending 31 March. Positive VP machines (which have a disclaimer tag) require $2 coin-in to earn 1 base point. Listed below are guesstimates of the latest guidelines (Green Valley Ranch requirements may be higher) used for the monthly mailings. |

Sunset Station has (6) $1 10/7 DB uprights with large screens. They are one row away from the change booth near Keno. These machines have been there for at least a year but for some reason are not listed in the databases. The bank of 12 FPDW near the Oyster Bar at Sunset Station have been replaced by (8) Optimum MG/MD that have FPDW, 10/7 DB, 15/8 LDW and 10/6 DDB *** As a general rule, it appears that it now takes $2 to earn 1 point @ Stations and the Fiestas on all positive ER games. LV Stations and Fiestas announce that full pay games will require $2 to earn 1 point beginning in JAN 2004. Current policy at Stations seems to be that they won't give any discretionary food comps to people who play positive machines, but will comp their rooms. A discretionary room comp probably requires around $8,000 Coin-In per day (on average) now. Last week we were at Sunset Station for 3 nights playing quarter FPDW. Two of the nights were on a mailed offer of "two free nights". When I made the reservation through host Nancy D I asked for an additional night and was offered a third night at casino rate with the usual evaluation at check out. Although I had not stayed there previously, I played there one afternoon in July and learned I would need play of 6 - 7k of FPDW to meet their theoretical loss for a room comp. After playing about 9K the first day I checked in with the host to see how I stood on getting the third night and limited food comped. She told me I could only get the third night comped if I played enough to also cover the first two nights. After a lot of discussion about the meaning of the word "free" she relented by saying it was a new policy and since we didn't know this at the time the reservation was made she would take care of the third night. She added that if I continued at that rate of play I would get limited food of $15 dollars per day. We continued to play about 9k per day and charged only $37 dollars in food as we ate most meals at other properties. On check out I called Nancy and learned there was another "new policy" that would not allow her to comp any food for quarter players. I reminded her of what she had told me two days earlier and she said the policy had changed since then. Nancy provided a phone number for her boss who I talked to later in the day. The boss said they use common sense (imagine that from casino management) when deciding food comps for quarter players and it was not necessarily so that they were not comped as someone losing a lot probably would be comped. She added that the policy concerning comps for quarter players had been in place for a long time. She agreed however to cover the charges even though I had won money (one royal) since I was told by the host they would be covered. Host Nancy D has a good reputation so I have trouble thinking this silliness is caused by her ineptitude. Another host told me Sunset has had 13 GMs since opening and has suffered a lack of consistency and direction as a result. At any rate, Sunset currently seems to be discouraging quarter playing visitors. I would recommend any quarter player using the two night offer to use it for FITR only and play VP elsewhere. |
