ZipTrac Features and Details

If you have lots of zip archives scattered across your hard drives, network drives, Zip drives, or CD-ROMs you know how difficult it can be to find that special program you're looking for when you need it.

I have over 16,000 zip files scattered across hard drives and CD-ROMS, and I can search them all in about 30 seconds on a Pentium 233.  That's over 500 files per second!

ZipTrac works in conjunction with PKZip (required) to  find, describe, and catalog the myriad of zip files that accumulate over time.

ZipTrac will scan entire drives or folders for zip archives, extract the archive descriptions, and store the results so that you can later search for key words and phrases across any or all catalogs that you have created. With ZipTrac you can quickly locate the archives you are looking for.

And you can add your own descriptions - either directly to the archive or to an existing catalog.

As you add files to a cataloged folder you can easily update a catalog with these new entries simply by selecting a catalog and asking ZipTrac to update it. ZipTrac will also cleanup your catalogs by removing references to files that are no longer where they used to be.

You can use ZipTrac's convenient Explorer-style interface to perform many other file management functions directly from ZipTrac such as create/delete folders, move/copy/delete/rename files and folders, unzip all or part of an archive to a target directory, or create a new zip file.
