ATV Page 13
It's the end of July and the monsoons are making the weather crazy ! It's 100+ in the desert and up on top the ground is covered with slush and the temperature was in the low 50's. Needless to say I didn't bring close to match these temperatures. At this time of the year the weather can take violent changes in a short period of time. I'm going to just park it till the weather settles in a few weeks.
August 13 2005 The Crook Side (General Crook Trail)
I just couldn't stand it any more. I just have to dance around the weather and take my chances. Everyone knows it rains every afternoon up on the rim in July and August. My strategy will be to hit it early in the morning and play it to the end. Let's see how close I can come to almost getting rained on
Sure looks like a lot of other people have the same idea as me, almost looks like an ATV convoy heading north. As you can see the weather was wonderful in the morning.
This is the south east end of the area. Being that this is the "RIM" we have a lot of areas that go to the edge with a swell view and great camping,,,, but not with kids! A few of the areas have these grass areas. I'm not sure what the real reason is for these fenced areas but they seem super to camp by.
Donahue Trail #27,,,, I wonder if there is a Donahue 1 thru 26 ? I never heard of this trail. I'm not sure it would be good to go to the trailhead in a pickup, sure seemed narrow ?
Not real sure ??? I think that town below is Strawberry. I'll have to check the GPS maps.
It's just and endless supply of really good camping spots with a view. I really wish it was a little brighter so the pictures would come out with richer color. This is what it really looks like today !
Check out this tree that was growing sideways ? I looked at it, it is not broke. It looks like a fairly fresh cut ????
It's early afternoon so I just happen to look up. Remember those afternoon showers they get up on the Rim ???? I think one is a coming!
This is why I carry a GPS. I am sure I should take the path to the right,,,,, but the GPS says left. MMMmmmmm…. Sure glad I went left.

I got the ATV loaded and just started down the highway when the sky opened up. Perfect timing! Ride in morning leave in afternoon, that’s simple!
8/27/2005 Lee Johnson Springs & Blue Ridge Pumping Station
The last time I was out I found this area "Lee Johnson Springs", I thought it looked really good and I would go back. We had very isolated roads ranging from Pickup to 4-WD to ATV only due to obstacles but not a hard ride at all for ATV's.
In case you didn't notice I had company (my neighbor) Dennis. This is 6 out of 26 rides I had company ! See the great views we had and as always found some A+ camping spots on the edge of the Mongolian Rim.
Makes my ATV look DINKY.
We finished off the Lee Johnson Spring area sooner than expected so we moved on to Battleground Monument. We couldn't find it, poor signage or I should say no sign. The road just ended ???? We found the pumping station but never got close enough to even see the water in the reservoir. We will get to water next trip ?
I found the Locknest Monster
