I tried this area before (See ATV adventure #8 Payson S-W), condition were not right to continue to Crackerjack so I’m back.
The famous Doll Baby Ranch, just to the west of the fence line you cross the East Verde River.
It seems that this is a budget cut area. The signs are very old and unreadable, many hills in the road are only passable with a Jeep or ATV , at some spots I encountered wash-outs and it has not rained in 90 days?
A few of the trails around the mine are blocked with piles of dirt to keep cars out.
To the best of my knowledge this is Crackerjack Mine. I can’t find anyone else that has ever seen it. I’m by myself so I don’t plan on crawling around to see what else I can find, “like a hidden vertical shaft”.
The roads back here are great (for ATV’s) the weather was perfect and I didn’t see anyone all day,,,, except this skull. As usual I seen other road going other place and may have to come back to explore,,,,, again !
* Be especially courteous when crossing the Doll Baby Ranch. This is private property and we are all so lucky that they give access to pass through. Please drive extra slow, don’t litter, don’t bother the livestock, Stay ON THE ROAD !
