2/18/2006 Black Mountain Picadilla Creek Area
2/25/2006 Pine Mountain FR201A
I don’t know why I ended up here. I guess I was just too busy to go anywhere special, but I had to ride. This area is very close to my house. Check out that tree ! It just stand there all by itself. Below is a close-up showing all the bullet holes that assholes just had to shoot.
How could it be that those streams were all dried up and out of nowhere we have small fish ?
This area was no real adventure but is was close and offered a variety of riding experiences. I will not be back unless I need to give some training.
One of my favorite riding spots is the Pine Mountain area. The one place I have not been for 20 years is deep down into the valley off 201A. They did have a fire here 10 years or more ago. One of the old mining cabins looks like it didn’t survive. The primitive foundation is still visible but the structure is gone.
Scary old mine shafts still exist. Most of the shafts in this area are horizontal. It’s those vertical ones you have to watch out for.
Remnants of the past occupants still exist. I always find these old vehicles that came down the creeks the hard way. Remains of the old mill and can still be seen. I always see these ovens but have no idea what they were used for.
This is it ! Over 20 years ago I broke my ribs climbing this hill on an ATC. It doesn’t look like much until you get to about 2/3 of the way up. It goes from about 40 degrees to over 50 degrees with a ledge. I went up,,,, looked,,,, and made the decision to turn around. Hurt me once, sham on you,,,, hurt me twice and I’m an idiot ! Or something like that.
Still more roads to investigate down at the bottom and a truly beautiful place to ride. I know a road from Sunflower mine hooks up down there, I just haven’t done it yet. But I will.
