4/2/2006 Diamond Point & Crystal Cave
My wife Connie and I have started the year off with many rides. This is the first real “Ride” for Kate and Glenn. Up to this point it has been just practice. We chose this area for logistical reasons to make it easy for Glenn to pull his trailer.
(Kate and Glenn's first ATV adventure ! )
This is United Mine and No I didn't go in ! This is the first mine shaft we found.
(Above) Kate and Glenn
The first real Structure we can to was Monte Cristo Mine. Most of the major structures and some of the machinery (like the giant cable winch) is still in tact. Yes, that is Glenn at the top of the rusty old tower. There is a major shaft that goes down at a steep angle. I have no idea if this is the only entrance to the mine.
The last mine on our planned route was the Gold Bar Mine. It was a discount version but had all the elements necessary to be a fairly good size operation.
All considered it was a real nice day. All indication are that we should be glad we did this ride before summer.
Don’t ask me why but we went for a ride on Sunday (that’s bad for traffic). Connie wanted to see the cave so off we went to Diamond point. The cave (as I have said before) does not look like a cave until you look into the slot in the ground. The picture on the right shows Connie about 20 feet into the opening and I am at the 1st flat spot.
I didn’t have a flashlight. I would take a picture and look at the view finder to see what is ahead.
LOL Is that stupid or what ? Time to come out !
The forest up around Diamond Point is just great and it was in the 60’s
Connie is just zinging along on her Polaris. I think she really like riding in the forest.
Spooky looking !
