April 22 2006 Late Afternoon Rim Ride
April 15, 2006 Return to Mingus Mountain
Way back on ATV Adventure Page #9, I did my 1st trip to Mingus Mountain. If you read between the line you will see that everyone else had Sport Quads and I had a Utility Quad. Lets just say it wasn’t a real good match and there was also an accident. I really needed to go back at a slower pace and explore the area a little more. Now that I have Glenn & Jim wanting to ride (with Utility Quads), it seems like the ideal spot to explore.
Great views on the way up out of Cherry. Is that a sweet picnic spot or what ! Look at the view from the top. This has to be one of the top 10 picnic tables in the state !
If you go up to the next level ~ 500 feet higher you get to the Hang-Glider launch ramp ! Yes, they jump from the highest level of Mingus Mountain ! NOT THIS BOY! ,,,, I’ll pass on this one !
Glenn and Jim are standing in front of the small cement pad. The other side is the Ramp you run down off the side of the mountain. You better be committed there is no turning back!
Nice trip for the first real time to this area. We got a good overall prospective of the area. We seen many side trail that need exploring in the future.
We had this family emergency on Friday night. The wife was just getting up at noon on Saturday. She said "load the ATV's" ????? I said “but it’s 12:00 where do you want to go?” She said “way north even if it’s for a few hour it’s better than no hours.” I think I created an ATV monster !
We unloaded and started riding at 3 PM. I explained to the Connie it’s OK we have lights if it gets dark, enjoy the ride, don't worry, don’t hurry.
This is the 1st time I have been in the dark with someone else (usually I’m by myself). Let’s get off the road and hit some of these ATV trails!
If you go way back in the woods and shut off your ATV, and the lights, it’s really SPOOKY ! This is the area the (Travis Walton) UFO abduction took place (extra Spooky)!
We got back home after 11:00 PM. It was better than sitting on the couch all day. I’m sure glad the wife talked me into this ride.
